Found some big pieces of hopefully decent material! The husband and I don't really know what we are looking for in "good pieces", but at least know what jasper looks like and that if a piece looks cool and different, it's worth cutting to see if it has anything! These were all found with relative ease. caballo lake finds 7-4-14 001 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr Same piece, different side caballo lake finds 7-4-14 002 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr caballo lake finds 7-4-14 003 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr caballo lake finds 7-4-14 005 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr This is a lot more green in person caballo lake finds 7-4-14 007 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr caballo lake finds 7-4-14 008 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr caballo lake finds 7-4-14 009 by kradzyniak89, on Flickr My favorite piece, the white spots are actually have a blue hint. Pics 1.2 and 7 are rhyolite. Locally called candy rock, but more commonly called wonderstone. The one with the spots, your favorite? is a poppy jasper. Last 2 are petrified wood. Where abouts were you collecting?

I was hoping it was pet wood! We were at a primitive camp site in caballo lake state park in new mexico. The site was civered in good size rock with lots of colorful stuff. We didnt grab anywhere near what we could have, left a lot of it there.

I am excited. We busted up the biggest one with a hammer down to more manageable sizes. I can't wait to slab some stuff up!

I really think if you take a picture and show the ends of the two Pet Wood pieces, the reply will be gravel rock instead of Pet Wood. I could be wrong. Some of those colorful pieces will make fantastic cabs, even spheres.

I'll take more pics of the possible pet wood tomorrow. It's only one piece...dunno why it posted twice, I meant to post another pic instead! lol.

I'd say the last sample is a slam dunk for petrified wood, as well. Tom

I am thinking it is petrified wood for sure. It has the bark pattern and everything. Now I'm trying to decide if I just tumble it, or TRY to cut it into a mini slab for a cab. Its pretty small, but I reeeeaaaalllly want to cab it!

Its pretty small, but I reeeeaaaalllly want to cab it! Well then, cab it. There's tons (literally) more of it out there. I've found it to be a dark brown usually, and that piece looks just like the stuff we've been seeing for years.
