Probably because it's become so common in usage, nobody {well almost} would know what it means.

Use T posts next time and drive them deep. Unless you have the right jack they are in there for life (or until they rust away). I think another reason for the taper locks on larger pulleys is economic. If you can make all the pulleys to same center hole and sell taper locks to fit individual shafts it has to be cheaper. With all these techs here why hasn't anyone corrected the word pulley with sheaves? Being a degreed engineer I listened to the mechanics and not the engineers. i had to keep things running. If you are in charge of keeping the machinery running you best listen to the mechanics. They did call them pulleys, so did I.

We called them pulleys too. When we ordered new ones they were sheaves though.

"A sheave by any other name will pulley the same."
I think that is the way Shakespeare said it.
Remember the old song "Bringing in the Sheaves" ?

They started me off w/a list of their better production workers and sent me out in the plant and ask them how I could help. In a servant capacity. To design what they needed to make the job/process better. The hourly employees were basically the best boss I could have ever asked for. As a team we became valuable to the company and took our liberties and recieved nice pay.
