Just a few African cabs...Mel Tabu Tabu brecciated jasper. This was the name given to it before the brighter red variety came on the market. They named the brighter variety Forest Fire Jasper. One of my favorite African materials, alternately named African Queen Picture Jasper or Kalihari Picture Stone when I bought it when it first hit the market.. Mostly takes a high satin finish but it varies from piece to piece. Dark red line along the pattern is a good indicator that this is what you have.

I really like both of these types. I had some tabu tabu that was outstanding- wish I hadn't sold it.

George: I was told by Ron of Ron's Rocks that the Chinese are purchasing all the #1 grade African Queen for carving. What you see on the market now is just the left over, more grainy, low grade material. Some folks are actually buying the carvings at shows to slab up for good cabbing material. First time I saw this stuff at Quartzite the quality and size of the boulders the guy had was incredible. He only had a few smaller pieces but I bought all I could afford at about $2.00 per pound.....Mel
