My dad just came for a visit and brought me a one pound container of titanium dioxide for final polish. How does this substance compare to the other kinds of polish compound? We use a Mini-sonic vibrating tumbler. We tumble mainly quartz, carnelian and similar stones. My dad said cerium oxide is too soft of a compound. What is your opinion? thanks, addicted to rocks

Greetings All, A quick google turned up these values (see www.reade.com/Products/Categories/abrasives.html)aluminum oxide Moh's hardness--9 cerium oxide Moh's hardness--6 titanium dioxide Moh's hardness--not given tin oxide Moh's hardness-- not given Aside from the hardness, the actual size of the particles is important. And of course, cost. WilliamC
