After 14 hours of private instruction I can proudly present my very first silver setting! I used my own cab of Mexican Royal Velvet Obsidian for this and learned very quickly how important a cab is to successful bezel setting. For a long time I have made my cabs to smithing standards with a slight bezel angle, flat back and even girdle. I never knew why this was so important but I did it because my commissions asked me to. Now I know why it's so important!!!! This is certainly not by any means perfect but it is something that I will wear and keep forever! There is nothing as great as expanding knowledge and skills!!!!!! Can't wait to do my 2nd!

Congratulations! Very nice! Your second piece will go much faster and easier. You did a great job laying the bezel down tightly and evenly without chipping or breaking such a fragile and brittle stone. That's not easy.
Yes, proper cab angles are critical for smithing. I've always made my own silver settings and always cut cabs that way automatically. I was a little confused when I arrived here and discovered a debate about that. I guess requirements may be different for wire-wrapping. I've never done it so I don't really know.
My wife still wears my first pendant set with a nice blue azurite and it's interesting the piece was made very much like yours.

Good reason to be pleased with the project, very well done. The color contrast between the cab and silver is really nice.

Very nice work. A good cut on the cab makes setting much easier. Just like your first cab now that the first setting is out of the way it only gets easier.
