First one I used silver filled sheet. It's some pretty tough stuff or I didn't anneal it enough! I am going to work with the silver filled some more. So far I am liking it. No showing on the edge when I cut it of the base metal, but then I didn't use a magnifying glass either. I would be happier with more of a patina, but I can live with this for now. I washed it off real good the second time & did it again. A little darker but not much. Some more copper. I need to find some big hole beads for some of my leather cords, as well as some crimp cord ends to fit the larger cord, particularly in silver without getting into silver plated stuff. Also on the hunt for bone, horn & wood that would fit the bill.

I think they all came out great! If you don't mind,,,I think the one with the silver fish should have the fish accented more then the "background"?The fish is the focal point of the whole piece and I think it should stand out more??? I think you would find that sterling silver sheet will anneal better then the silver filled sheet you're using.I've never worked with silver filled material so I don't really know but it seems to me that sterling silver would anneal better? It's all in the learning process and Lord knows we are ALL learning! connrock

Totally agree with you on the silver fish, connrock. That's why the second go around with the los. I was trying to get it to stand out more. You might be right about annealing. I will have to try it again & see if that's the case. I went with the silver filled to start off with because of the price difference between that & sterling. After my feet are sufficiently wet enough I will invest in some sterling sheet, if I have the funds. Still waiting for that magical moment when silver drops way low................................... By the way if you or anyone has any ideas that could help that silver fish I have listening ears!!!!!! Thank you for all input!!!

Nice work, Donnie! Can't help with the silver fish, unless bringing down the patina in the background will help the fish pop. That copper fish looks awesome! Great detail. What did you use as a plate? edit- nevermind- just read the other post...

if the antique look is what you're aiming for try brushing on undiluted bleach till it's as dark as you want it, then use a polishing cloth to remove it from the high spots to make your subject stand out. I would play with a scrap piece first.

Those are all nice. How big of beads are you looking for? I had someone give me some last night. They knew I made bracelets so they gave them to me. I use mainly 4 & 6mm stones and crystals. These are a lot bigger. I can take a picture of them in the next few days, and if they might be something you could use, I would be glad to send them to you.

That's nice, Lee! I didn't know bleach would do that. Sandy that's very nice of you to offer & yes, I would be interested. Maybe we could even do a trade of some sort! Thanks Rich. I need to crank up the mill & play some more, just been too busy with other stuff lately!

I find it does take a little more heat to anneal the silver filled, and you have to be careful not to reticulate the outer silver-clad layers. But the price savings is big.
Also, I have tried to incorporate slight reticulation into the design, much like rolling a finer-grain texture onto the sheet.

I tried annealing another piece of the silver filled longer.................needless to say it was too long! Now I have this funny pattern in the center of that piece & I have been trying to come up with some sort of way to save the piece by doing something weird or funky with it. Don't know if that's what is meant by reticulation or what but I sure did something to it!!
