The end of summer is nigh! Collecting season for the wife and I here in Arizona, is about to begin. I've been organizing, and putting last years finds away so I have space for this coming seasons finds ad I thought I would post pictures of some. Malachite from the Planet Mine area. Quartz crystals on petrified wood from the Joseph City area. The wood in this piece is not completely petrified. Another piece from the same spot was damaged by my rock hammer when digging and it splintered. Rhomboidal Calcite with phantoms. A photo cannot do this piece and a few others like it justice. The color is just off white and has a slight pearlescent luster. Calcite on Amethyst in calcite/fluorite. Found this inside one of the fluorescents we picked up at the Purple Passion mine. Siderite(?) with azurite coating. What appears to be an Azurite coating on Siderite(?). From the Cunningham Pass area. Chrysocolla dendrites(?) on a nice iron oxide coating. Not sure what to say here. Just thought it was appealing I guess. From the Cunningham Pass area. Fluorites are among my favorite minerals. A little earlier in the year we had the opportunity to collect on a friends fluorite claim. These are some samples of what we've found. God I love this hobby! If you would like to see more, I made posts on our blog, Earth n Stuff, when the wife originally took the pictures.

Really nice specimens that I would be proud to put on my shelf. The malachite is a killer. Post some UV photos sometime if you are set up for dark room photography.

Thanks guys, for the great comments. I have become so addicted to this hobby lately. I guess it helps that our club ( MSA) had a great season of filed trips and we got to collect in a few places we otherwise couldn't have or hadn't heard of. 150FromFundy: I would take UV shots but my damn light gave up the ghost. It was only a small 4 watt sw, but at the time I couldn't beat the deal. One of these days soon I plan on picking a a new unit, hopefully something a bit more powerful.
