I am the President of a Lapidary club in Australia, our sanding machines use 8 inch Silicon Carbide disks attached to the foam rubber backing by hook and loop (Velcro). Recently our supplier is sending us very very unsuitable disks, basically just a sheet of "Wet and Dry" paper stuck on top of a woodworkers garnet paper disk, a few minutes wet working and the "wet and dry" turns to mush and all that's left is the garnet paper, so the whole thing is useless. I am happy at home to use disk cement to stick wet and dry on the foam, but at the club it is just too much hassle, it doesn't last long enough when you have inexperienced people that don't care using the machines. We have a couple of belt machines but really need to keep our disk machines working. What do other clubs do? I would love to get Silicon Carbide (or Diamond) cloth and have a much more durable setup just so I am not constantly running in to do maintenance on workshop days. Any ideas on suppliers, anywhere in the world? I have had a look around and our hobby is really a niche thats not very well serviced at all.
Cheers Paul
