Can someone walk me thru burnishing? I have tumbler barrels from 3lb up to 50lbs. I read here that Ivory soap works well and that Borax does not work. So how much soap and for how long?

Borax is a common choice for small tumblers. You want a detergent that doesn't form suds, which is a property of Borax. For a 3 lb barrel, use a tablespoon, or two. I'll let you do the math for a 50 lb barrel.
I can comment on Ivory Soap, but if there is a powder detergent version that does not form suds (contain phosphates), it should work as well.
Burnishing isn't magic. You are simply washing the barrel, lid, and load for a second time after your hand rinse and scrub.

I'm a fan of Ivory Snow for burnishing - works well for me (amazing how grey the burnish water is after a short tumble). I've avoided borax because you have to send it down the drain (it will kill plants and I dump nearly all of my tumbling-related water on plants in my yard).
