I will be in OK City tomorrow night (Wed) thru late Friday morning. Any rock shops in that area? Anyone live nearby that wants to meet? I will be staying at the Hyatt.

There's Arrowhead Supply. The owner's very old, often sick and not there, and very crusty. There's also several New Age crystal shops there, Nature's Treasures in Midwest City, and another on E 15th west of Natures Treasures. You can go see the Sam Noble Museum at OU (nice fossil displays), and there's the Rose Rock Museum in Noble.

Hi Sheri, you will be only a couple of hours away, but I can't leave town until Saturday afternoon. Think I stayed at the Hyatt there years ago, it is not bad at all.
Let us know the next time you are going to be in the area, Steve (Horsenaround) and I have been talking about going to the salt plains north of OKC for crystals but they are closed right now because of some kind of chemical vials that were buried there in the sixties and forgotten. Long story, but maybe some day they will reopen.

Sheri Norman, just south of OKC has barite rose rocks. Don't know who to contact, but you might ask around.
Spike I think it was WW2 that the vials were buried there. They contain mustard gas. Dang Guvment! If they reopen, by all means go if you can. It's a beautiful place. Thousands of pelicans in Spet/Oct. Thousands of geese in Nov. The selenite crystals are easy to dig and they are very unique. Curt

I heard about those chemical vials. They're nerve toxins and all sorts of other nasty stuff from WW2. I'm glad I went digging there last year, I hit the jackpot digging. I so want to go digging there again You can always try digging rose rocks out SE of Norman.

I kind of figured it was something bad as they were not saying what it is. The info I got was that they were put there for training. No one had found any until last May, and it was closed four days before I read about the area in Southern living. Now I see that they have collected 130 vials since then and have no way to detect them so can not reopen until it is safe.
Now that I am thinking more about it, The park opened in like 1964 and this is the first time they have surfaced, so I got things turned around.
