At the last meeting of my rock club one of the old timers put a shoe box sized box on the door prize table. There was a piece of paper tape on it marked Horse Canyon Agate. I have been lurking here long enough to have heard that Horse Canyon was no longer open to collecting. I heard stories that it is private property or under a housing development. I asked the old timer about the pieces and he said he collected them back in the 1950s when he was a new rock hound, so he couldn't vouch for how good the pieces were. One time as an educational presentation brought in a copy of the Elizabeth Taylor diamond that he made from a pictures in Time magazine and a statement from the cutter that the pictures were twice actual size so I had a lot of faith in his judgment. I won the box and almost all of the pieces are small, but the designs just blew me a way. Here are the first slabettes I cut.

Those are pretty nice pieces, suppose anyone living there now would like a basement dug under their house.

It's not covered. Access is closed thru private roads. That is what I learned last month anyway. Dude claims he knows someone with "permission" to go hound still. Whatever that means.

I would love to go check this place out. I believe I saw a Searchers newsletter that said they had collected here in the past couple of years. Taking a look at the Searchers website I am sorely tempted to join so I can go on local trips with them even though I am a couple of hours away.
