Two very nice cabs, Glenn! I am looking forward to seeing what those slabs look like once you get them cut!

Cut a few slabs yesterday, some was disappointing and some has potential. The lighting is not the best so its kinda hard to see the colors. The oil is still draining off the slabs. Will cut more today.

Why aren't you just washing them? Get yerself some Dawn dishwashing liquid and get busy! Because the oil costs a small fortune (takes 5 gallons to fill the trough) and it loses a bit of oil by means of vapor for every cut I make. If it was cheap I would be doing that! Edit: i usually cut or grind on tuesdays and thursdays... maybe fridays tipically as thats the only days i have time. There is some really amazing stuff (in my opinion) that i will be or have cut.. not as good as lower 48 stuff but for Alaska its some of the best.

I don't understand what the cost of oil has to do with washing cut slabs.
Cut the slab, set in in a bucket of kitty litter for awhile (hours not days!), wipe it off and wash in a bucket of water with Dawn to remove the remaining oil film. Dawn is what they use to wash the oil coated birds & critters in oil spills. And the slabs are good to go.
Yes, you will lose a bit of oil from the mist the saw creates. Hope you're not breathing that! So go to your local drug store or Wal*Mart every week or two and buy a big bottle of their cheapest Baby Oil. A couple bucks. Add to saw oil. It will refill your lost oil AND make the room & your slabs smell fresh!

Cheaper than Baby oil, Walmart sells pints of mineral oil for $2.00 ea- That's $16.00 a gallon. Pretty cheap. If you wanna conserve on saw oil, leave the saw lid closed for 5 minutes after each cut, and use a squeegee to scrap the slab oil back into the saw. Then wash in Dawn.Easy peasey AND cheap.

I'm meaning i set it in a bucket without anything at first to drain the excess oil. After it is fully drained i put it in kitty litter.
The vapors coming out of the chord hole in the back for the most part (which is small). I Usually wait until i stop hearing drips before opening the hood.
What is the name and brand of this mineral oil unclesoska? I did not find it on the website.
I appreciate the advice, might try dawn instead of kitty litter.

The mineral oil is in the pharmacy, near other laxatives. I dump my pints into the saw or a larger container so don't know brand name, if there is one. Just ask the pharmacist, and ask them to check stock as they only put out like 6-8 pints at a time.

I will be making a red cab / pendant soon.. not sure from what slab as i have 3 or 4 more red rocks to slab up. I'm making it for a former teacher of mine. I'm going to finish my homework before I post pictures of my units and rocks.

There she is - purdy! Do you have a separate drain bucket down on the floor?

There she is - purdy! Do you have a separate drain bucket down on the floor? Yeah, its under the desk asthe hoses aren't long enough to set it at the side. I just wish they had some clips that you could better secure the hoses to the buckets.

I got a U-bolt at the hardware store, cost less than a buck, and drilled two holes in the bucket for the U-bolt to go through then put the nuts on the outside with the U on the inside so the hose slips inside the U which holds it from moving or coming out of the bucket.
Easy fix. Let me know if you don't follow and need a picture.
ETA: Duct tape would work too!

I haven't really thought about U bolts before.. good idea!
Also that single cab start (which i may or may not enter in the contest) is called Anorthoclase which comes from Norway I made the cab start out of a piece of tumble size rock. Its really nice once polished... I might consider getting more of this stuff some time, along with all labradorite like stuff.

The only thing I would change in the design is to extend the water trays. Also the material you see, the sage amethyst i bought from Donnie, and the agate is from Tommy and If i recall the wonderstone was from you if I recall correctly. I have over 50 preforums I cut out of the slabs I received (some from my co-worker and from here). I'm not sure when I will cab more. College is picking up again and I still need to do more cutting.
