DO they go together? I have a nice slab I've been waiting to cut...it cuts like butter and I'm afraid to tumble it? Is it too soft to shine?

Lapis shines up beautifully on a wheel, but, tumbling will lead to disappointment. I've tried both in a rotary & in a vibe with less than good results. I believe it's from the pyrite inclusions in the lapis that grind on the softer sodalite/blue material. This has been my experience at least. Your actual mileage may vary. Last

I just checked my load of lapis. What an awful mess. It's all pitted, the calcite got dug out, and the lazulite's not even close to polished. Maybe I'll just cab it all

My results have been less than satisfying also. Some pieces polish up fine if they are predominantly dark blue, but mottled, flecked and grainy pieces fail miserably I'm sorry to say. Tumbling with plastic pellets did little to help matters along. I've given up on the lapis now - back to flint Cheers,

i've tumbled scraps with mixed results.....it's very soft and much better for cabbing.
