I am one of those dastardly "Snipers" on eBay. Meaning I bid very late in an auction. Some approve, some don't - I don't care either way, it's simply how I bid. So, I had a piece of Stone Canyon Jasper on my eBay watch list. Nice piece which I wanted to buy. It had an opening bid placed days ago, and no other bids. I watched as the time ticked down and set my bid amount to place as time ran out. In the last 5 seconds two other "snipers" bid. One at 5 seconds (hardly a snipe!) and one at one second - nice try. My zero second snipe was high enough to take the auction. Game Set Match offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=191400564254&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565sometimes it's the little things

Ahhh, the dastardly a***t strikes again. I guess that's what makes ebay kinda fun. If their britches get riled up then they are too sensetive. Good score!

Got to admit, I'm a snipe bidder too, when I bid. That looks like a very nice hunk of Stone Canyon Bob! Looks real glassy like a hunk right from the old quarry......Mel

I like to think of it more as having skill at hunting and honing in on just the right moment for the kill. look at the lay of the land, check out the competition and know who and where they are located, get your target in sight, see which way the wind is blowing... make your move at the last possible moment. hunter gatherer instincts are alive and well in most of us.

I have a few chunks of that stuff in my sell bin. It just does not appeal to me. Maybe in the spring I will find it and post it.

Don, that's funny as hell. I had both of those on my watch list. I had bought too much stuff already that day and let them go. I'm a huge tiger iron fan!

Well, at least it sounds like I didn't out snipe you. Last time I had a decent chunk of tiger iron was in the early 90's. Trying to find a CBN blade to slab it. That stuff is hell on diamond blades.

Again, very nice Bob. Note the blackish metallic patina in one of those pics. Right from the quarry site or they broke up a big boulder.....Mel

Do you guys use the automatic sniper bidding you can setup? Wonder if that's how they can get away with 0 second bid. Ive had my run bidding on eBay and doing the sniper method but always went old school. No automatic sniper stuff.

that Stone Canyon you won on there looks similar to the Wingate Pass agate. Nice looking stuff the Stone Canyon material is.

No automatic sniper stuff. auto snipe ?? pfffft An auto snipe system wouldn't bid that close, they would lose too many from timing out and be outta business in a quickness. Best I've ever heard of Esnipe doing is 5 seconds. Setting it closer than that would be asking to lose.

Looks less like "tiger iron" and more like "tiger eye" to mee. Would you old timers please comment on my observation? Learning is my goal. I learn so much from you I feel compelled to ask for more!

Nice thing about living in the sticks of Wyoming is not having to compete with someone for the rocks. There are way more rocks and variety to go around if you figure out where to look. In some ways I am very lucky. Right after saying that I look outside and it is seven (7) degrees. Luck just flew out the window. Jim

Aridzona has more rocks than anywhere. And it's warmer than your refrigerator. The freezer?? That's the F word!
