Hi Everyone,
Friday, November 7th I went to my local rock shop and picked up some nice rocks and posted some pictures. That evening I started having pains in my stomach. I spent Saturday cutting some of the rocks I bought, the pain now in my lower right abdomen. The pain wasn't too bad I thought I had pulled a muscle. On Sunday I took it easy but still did a few things. By Monday, the 10th, the pain wasn't getting any better but it wasn't getting any worse either, but I decided it was time to go to the ER. After my daughter got out of school she took me to the hospital. By midnight my appendix was out. It had perforated causing a whole bunch of problems. Because of the perforation, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I spent 9 days in the hospital. I don't remember the first five days, only pain. I've been home for 12 days and still don't feel completely normal. Today is the first day I felt like going online. Finally, starting to feel better. Not ready to work with the tumblers yet but hopefully soon. Please don't ignore any pain you are having….especially chest pain or lower right abdominal pain. Get it checked out. If I would have gone on Saturday maybe all of this could have been avoided.

Good advice! So glad you are home and on your way to recovery. Give yourself a lot of time. Your body has been through an awful lot and it will need to rest a lot more than your mind thinks it should. Be kind to yourself.

Glad you got it taken care of and good advice indeed. A couple of years ago my dad ardently tried to fight off a sickness that nearly killed him. A lot of the time (at least in Canada) it takes several doctor trips to get the right diagnosis, no shame in going back repeatedly or getting a second opinion. I've gone to the hospital a couple of times for things that might not have been extreme dangers, but rather be safe than sorry.
In my dad's case, he was not a fan of doctors or hospitals and tried to fight through what seemed like a bad cold. He got pneumonia and went to the local clinic but the medication wasn't improving his situation. He was puking from coughing so hard and I remember how sad it was to hear him, truly sounded like he was on death's doorstep. He finally went to the hospital with a collapsed lung and they found out he had an amoeba that had created a large abscess on his liver, causing fluid to build up in his chest and the pneumonia. He was treated immediately and spent a week in the hospital recovering. I honestly think he was days or a week or two away from dying if he didn't go.

Thanks Everyone, I just got back from my surgeons office. He said everything looks good, but it could still be a month or more before I have all my strength back. He told that when he first met me he thought it would be an easy surgery, stay overnight, and go home the next day. I wasn't in much pain and turned down pain medicine when they asked if I needed any. I forgot to mention, 7 weeks earlier I had emergency gall bladder surgery. I was in severe pain then, begging for morphine. When he saw me the next day things had gone downhill. My surgeon was great. He explained everything and answered all questions thoroughly. Each time he came to see me in my room he spent over a half an hour. Really made me feel like he cared.
bcrockhound….I'm happy your dad got to the hospital before it was too late. I had an abscess too…I left the hospital with a drain coming out of my stomach.

Very Close call, good advice, happy ending, rest and heal, will keep you in prayers. I had an abdominal abscess 12 years ago, ignored the pain until I couldn't, just like you. It took about a year to get back to normal. The body is a healing machine.... you are well on your way.
