Wow, beautiful rough, So, I guess Zaire is allowing export of unprocessed rough now? I remember back when I was first married, all the malachite had to be made into ashtrays, decorative objects and such before export. We used to buy the larger ashtrays and slab them up *L*. I still have big polished free form botryoid sitting on my desk from that stuff. Or is the malachite from the Republic of Congo instead of the what, Democratic Republic of the Congo ( Zaire)? I get confused about the two. Haven't seen any mtorolite at a show in years and years. I think it's prettier than chrysoprase if you get a good piece with that deep chrome color....Mel

Nice stuff! What are you going to do with all of it? That would be a lot of green cabs.

Just that it's from "The Congo". It may end up that I'm getting a humongous 83 kg single piece of Malachite too! I'll put pictures of that beast up in a little bit.

So, I promised pictures of the 83 kg monster piece of Malachite I'm getting... here she is! That's one spectacular chunk o green! Some one has to do it... So, the question is: Why? It sure is an impressively huge hunk of malachite, but... you're talking about 180+ pounds in malachite in one chunk even reducing your price to 25 bucks a pound, that's over $4,500 shipping would probably have to be a freight company (or risk a really pissed off UPS driver!) It would seem that such a large rock with a pretty hefty price tag hanging on it would have a very limited buyers pool. Even if it's priced really low (per pound) it would be a shame to break it up; it is notable because of it's size. Or, are you giving this to your wife as a Christmas present for her to put in her rock garden?

Why? Because somebody is paying me to. :-) It's a special order for a customer of mine. I just thought I'd show it off.
What's my customer going to do with it? I'm pretty sure it's yard art!

Since this is all unworked, rough stone, it's 7103.10.2080. Also, I couldn't comment on the import regs for African stuff. I'm not aware of any restrictions.
