You would enjoy being around most of the people in Quartzsite, a friendly bunch. (But yes, you will find some stupid people, they are everywhere!). Not everyone is there for rocks, but a many are. A lot of retirees, and people escaping the cold at home.
I don't mind crowds, it's the caliber of the people. There is a large swapmeet within walking distance of my home. Being that I am only ten miles from the border, it is mainly patronized by non-English speakers, not many white faces in that crowd. The adults are rude, the children disrespectful, and out of control. And all of them are slobs, they do not hesitate to litter, trash everywhere (just like at home?)
Instead of walking there, we drive 15 miles to the swap in Santee. Different group of people, totally different experience.

I'm not a crowd liker either. Doesn't help when ya want to give your jewelry new homes and pick up some jingle. Oh well it is what it is. Not many crowds camped out in the desert right now and fortunately there's a lot of open space to camp. Seems like Quartzsite isn't really hoppin yet or it might be going downhill.

It's early yet, may still pick up. But even if it doesn't that's okay by me. My good friends will be there, that's all I really care about, lol.
Hey, Diane, how cold did it get last night? Are you staying at your mom's, or closer to the action in your new trailer? I am jealous that you are already there...

Yes, oh, my a feast for the eyes and boggles the mind. Looks wonderful! (except for the one instance in Jean's old thread, leatherbritches dude is an interesting example of the tolerance of compassionate folks. Most places he would have been locked up for life) I could skip that vision and not be sorry.
How would you ever make up your mind on what to purchase? I don't mind crowds in flea markets or similar open outdoors venues, hate them in malls and other enclosed areas (car shows, ball stadiums, etc) Think I'd have no trouble adapting. Looks like something to put on the bucket list for sure. Keep the pictures and reports coming, thanks for all the posts and the comments!

Rock crowds peak Pow Wow week. Nationwide weather seems to dictate when the snowbirds come.

I'm sure it will pick up, already seeing more dirt campers than last year and creeping me out. I'm enjoying being able to stay longer by camping here in my home on wheels. Definitely closer to the action. Glad you're jealous. ...;-) If anyone wants to be sociable let me know. I'm camped next to orrum in La posa west behind the dumpsters. I even got a montana flag to decorate my spot. Had to compete with his pink flamingos. I am having a time with my batteries so thinking about solar but not sure I want to invest if I may not use it much in Montana. Gotta think on it a little more. Looking forward to seeing more RTHers soon, yeah even you Jean..

Dirt Surfers at Q are the usually raggedy dreadlock folks that sit in the dirt all day with a few cabs or slabs etc spread out in front of them for sale. I think they shoplifting the stuff and then sell it. It's part of Q.

Great. Thanks for the older pics, Jean. The pickup is serviced and ready to go, the camper is ready except for throwing the last minute stuff in. Started planning this years trip on the way home last year. Should be pulling out of here by the weekend. But (there's always a but, isn't there?) we've had some stuff come up in the last few weeks that mean we won't be making it to Quartzsite this year. Just not a thing we can do about it.
You all have fun and take lots of pictures, okay?

Was really looking forward to seeing you and Cyndi at Q.
I may not make it next year. Someone said they would like to spend the one week of vacation for the year going/seeing something else. Quartzsite and hounding rocks? What else is there, lol? I think he wants to do more prospecting. I told him not until his back is 100%.
Maybe I'll just have to win the lotto or something, then be able to do anything I want, whenever I want. Travel 52 weeks out of the year, whoo hoo!!
Will, miss ya, Russ.

I miss the guys too. Lee you definitely made us all look twice walking barefoot over all that cactus covered rocky ground. I did see you break out the rubber soles at least once but you were still pulling cactus spines out of the sides of your feet. Gypsy and I both miss you John. She did play fetch the orange a few times with Tony but it's just not the same. And Jim, well, you definitely added color to the group.
