I went down to Woodward Ranch today. Jan & Trey need to leave town Sunday and Monday so I offered to ranch sit. So I am going down early Sunday morning and will stay until Monday night. Darn, guess I will have to rock hunt after the rock shop closes at 5pm Jan and I had a wonderful visit today and there was a heavy rain right before I arrived! I almost didn' make it down to the ranch due to the mud! (the Blitz members will understand). Anywho, I was able to grab an hour of rock hunting on the other side of the corrals where Jan said that plume biscuts have been showing up! Sure enough.............several of them. I filled up half a back pack with biscuts and other agates. I will take pics tomorrow morning and post them in the pics thread. Ok, more good news...............while there, this guy from Mexico drives up with a truck full of rock from Durango. When Jan got done buying, I saw a box of calcite crystals (I think that is what they are) on matrix. The crystals look like flower sprays. They are beautiful. I got a trememdous deal on the whole box. I am going to offer them to yall on the Buy thread before I list them on Ebay. I will take pics tomorrow.............wait! I just remembered, I took a couple of pics at the ranch!! Here they are................... UPDATE! The specimins below are beautifull sprays of clear bladed Hemimorphite on a matrix of limonite. Mapimí, Durango, Mexico The Ranch Red Plume Biscuts - The Crystals I bought - I will take pics of the rest of the loot tomorrow. It was dark when I got home. I will also price and list the crystals tomorrow. PM me if you are interested.

Nice Sheri! I would love to be down there babysitting the Ranch with ya...and it looks like some great little biscuits popping up. Those are some sweeeet crystals too. Too bad I got out of the mineral collecting..but really like those nodules. Have fun and find lots of goodies. Steve

Mitzi, I am cutting the biscuts now and will post whats inside in the pics thread later today. The well known 'red plume' is in some of them. Thats why most collect them. Sometimes they have black plumes in them. Woodward Ranch is known for the "Red Plume".

Oh man, need someone to help lug rocks or cook dinner while at the ranch? Cool ranch photos. Those are some cool looking biscuts. I can't wait to see what's in them and hear how your time was. Steve

Hi RockHobbit, coincidence just now. Came in from loading my 5 gallon rough tumbler with Woodward agate. Sat down to check out the forum and find you babysitting the ranch. It has been three years since visiting there. Using up the last of my LOOT! Yes their red plume is wonderful!! Needing to get away and return, (been saying that for three years), perhaps you can tell me - I have some large chuncks of their agate that is splotched with solid red, mustard and green. No plumes or bands. Talking about 5 - 10# pieces. Wondering what they are called. Curious about snakes this time of year along with high temperature. Would it be best to visit in late winter or (?) Till then just have to be satisfied with this Paint Rock stuff we find up here. ;D ;D

Hunting down there is prime right now. Tons of stuff washed to the surface with the recent rains. I only saw one snake in two days of hunting and that was at dusk! I am moving down in that area and will be there tomorrow. Let me know and I will go hunting with you. If you have a four wheel drive (I dont), I will take you over to the east side where there is lots of different varieties. Sounds like you have the much sought after "Flower Garden Agate". It is getting pretty scarce although Dan (Blarneystone) found a new source, he believes, over on the east side. Bring a piece with you and we can have Jan verify it for you. She sells Flower Garden for $15 per lb. Hope to meet you soon!!

" I am moving down in that area and will be there tomorrow" I read that a hour ago and while just now walking through the living room realized what you wrote. So you are headed to the Alpine area? Congrats, but leave some for the rest of us
