so.... I was bidding on some calcite clams from Ruck's Pit in Fort Drum down near Lake Okeechobee here in Florida. the winning bid here is mine: offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=191503334436&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565Yes, that would be a win by one cent with zero seconds left! I've done that before, but it never gets old. Even got the badge to show for it back when I was on the Bidding Board on eBay a decade or so ago. The other bidder had also been bidding on some of these clams and I went back over a couple previous auctions and figured out the extra cents that he added to his bid. He had been bidding lower dollar amounts and I'd smoked him with a couple 1 & 2 second snipes. So, I knew he would be gunning for this last clam the seller had listed for today. Had to guess at his dollar amount and got lucky. Figure the guy was screaming at his computer by the end of the night! I'll make an effort to be nicer in my next life.

Not quite as exciting as finding rocks in the field, but it can be exciting to win a bid war. Well played, sir, well played.

Snipe on Bob. Snipe on. Wasn't me. I sniped 6 out of 7 new minerals last night.
We should start a new club. Snipers United. LOL

The thrill of the hunt! I was bidding for something for the wife one night when the laptop batteries died. Rookie error. Needless to say she has never let me forget it!
