Quite a feat of international mailing, bcrockhound is way out there in the wild. how does the population break down there Stew, miners, native people, more men than women? Eds rockin hearts are always made with love. The good Karma is built right into them. Keep them in a pocket or your wallet til you can put them on a chain.
Looking forward to seeing what sort of rocks you might hound come the thaw! Keep on keeping on!
mr.mohs, those are beauteous. always look forward to your posts.
Massive government up here. It employs 22% of the workforce and for each person who moves to NWT, the territory gets $29,000 in transfer payments from the feds. Northwest Territories is the only province/territory in Canada where the population is decreasing, I believe. It's a stark dichotomy to have the palace that is the Legislative Assembly in Yellowknife a few blocks away from poverty downtown.
That said, I've had a fantastic time interviewing and chatting with diamond miners and junior exploration companies. I know all about how to find diamonds and gold now. The diamond CEOs are just as excited about rocks as any rockhound.
Oh yeah, and tons of Asians here. They come to see the northern lights and procreate under them (true story).
Unfortunately I might miss out on doing any Yellowknife hounding at all, which is a shame, because I've learned there is visible gold in quartz readily available around the old mining sites. My job, as plans go right now, is sending me to Nunavut for the summer. That'll be a great experience, but I fear pretty boring, with no car and no roads to go anywhere even if I did have one. I plan to eat whale and seal anyway.
