The wife and I set up our tables and canopy Thursday and met Keith and Mark. They had so much, 2 trucks fully loaded. I bet they sold 50% of their "stuff" within 2 hours after unloading it. I was back Friday but bowed out Saturday and returned Sunday. We had a super time meeting all who stopped by our tent.
Only when Keith put up his sign did I realize who he and Mark were. I had never meet them before but had seen photo's here. James ? or someone had awhile back did a photo trip on one of James' river tripping for coral and both were in the water in a few pics. Keith had his sign so I placed him to the forum but I didn't have my '39 so he didn't know who I was till I told him I was 39don. We had a great time at Graves as always.
Anyway, I'm sorry to have missed some who were there Saturday but we will be returning this October if all goes well.

Jimi it looks like pretty solid material. You going to make plugs with those?

kap yes the plugs have been started. Those are the rough shape. I'd probably like some more rough too as each individual plug will be different in shape and color. gingerkid did you make it out there and back safely?

Glad that some members met at the dig! There's wild goats in them thar hills, garock? broseph82, that's a gorgeous specimen. Did you bring it home? After reading your dig report and observing your photos, we decided to wait until October. Did y'all go anywhere else to dig? Did Tonya and the kids have a good time?

gingerkid it was a good trip overall. I just think quarries are not for me. I did meet a couple and talked to them for a good hour in the main pit. For the work I put in to digging I want a great reward. I couldn't even find slab able pieces of lazulite. We found some smaller pieces of the iridescent hematite and my son found a small but awesome piece of lazulite. It seems I like hearing other people's stories about rocks and conversating more. I guess that's why dealers tend to go out there to talk and sell. Ha

The best ones we found are at the entrance to the middle (iridescent) pit. But it does take a lot of work to cobble those guys down to tote-able sizes. Did you go to Diamond Hill or JXR?

fantastic5Yeah I didn't have my sledge with me. I wasn't sure what to expect so we had smaller tools. I did find big boulders with nice lazulite but they were big boulders and I didn't have the right equipment. Most were looking for rutiles. We did not go to Diamond Hill. We had heard some insider info about them that really turned me off. I thought JXR was closed now? We stopped by Cartersville but didn't really go home with much. Tonya got a couple pieces but I didn't bring anything home from either place.

Diamond Hill is dump digging. It's been quite a while since I was there last and we did find some nice pieces. Brian was very good to me and my kids on that trip. I've also heard mixed reviews of the current state of the mine. I believe JXR is open, but access is no longer through our NC club. And yes, those lazulite boulders are smart car sized for sure. And without a sledge, it would have been hopeless. Come to think of it, you would have needed a sledge for JXR to get anything of worth too. Surface collecting is hit and miss. Even with a sledge, I wear out too quickly to make any progress on the quartzite/lazulite boulders. But that is where my husband shines! He 'hulk smashes' and I cheer him on with renditions of 'Sledgehammer' . It's a win-win!
