Figured I should post some tumbles since I haven't done so in a couple years I bought a couple kilos of small sunstones (the largest are about 12-15 carets) when I went to Q in January...tumbled them and ended up with about a kilo and a half - sample below - Lee #1

solid sunshine! that needs to go somewhere near a window so the light can play in there. This sort of stuff is all over on the local beaches, ours are not quite as translucent- have more red flecks- more rosy-peachy -not as yellow - looks like I need to collect some and get busy. These are sure pretty!

Yup, a little schiller - sort of champagne colored. I think my next batch will be oregon for sure.

Very nice ! Would you mind walking a newbie through the steps you took? I just got a pound of oregon sunstone and would like to try my hand at tumbling. I have a tumbler and some fine grit as well as pre polish on hand. What else do I need? I so appreciate anyone taking the time to clue me in

Glad you like them. I used my double 3 lb Lortone, filled each barrel with rough to about 80-85% full, about 3 tbsp 60/90 SiC, ran it for a week cleaned them out, refilled with 3 tbsp 120 SIC, ran it a week, cleaned out, refilled with 3 tbsp 500 SiC, ran it a week, cleaned out, refilled with 1 tbsp 1000 AlO, ran for a week, cleaned out, refilled with AlO polish, ran for a week, clean and done. I didn't want to lose much due to tumbling and I didn't.

Those are sure great looking stones Lee. How "rough" were they before the first grind? Did they smooth out after the first 60-90, or did it take the next 120 step to shape them?

There were sharp edges. The 120 step took some of it off. Oh, I lost a little less than half a kilo out of the 2 kilo I started with.
