I've been wondering around picking up "pretties" for well over 30 years now and one of my friends told me to get on board here, so here I am. Fossilman invited me and so I had to get over here. I do everything from mining, cutting, wire wrapping, and all around screwing off. I have no worries about driving 1000 miles for just a couple days of hounding if the place is awesome, and one of my favorite haunts is the mountains of the Mojave Desert in the Ludlow and Calico areas. I am also lucky enough to live in a state that has what seems an endless supply of amazing stones as well, Oregon. For me, a short day trip can be as close to my friends farm to search the river for agates, pet wood, and jaspers of every color. A long day trip can be up to a 4 4-1/2 hour drive one way just to hunt for rocks for 2 hours and drive the 4 hours back home. Whats nice about the 4 hour radius from home is it covers everything from Everett Washington to the north, Weed California to the south, the ocean beaches to the west, to Glass Buttes and Hampton wood to the east. One of my favorite areas here in Oregon to "base camp" is Lakeview because within a 2 hour radius there is a huge variety of material one can seek, from Sunstones near Plush, Rainbow and Silver sheen Obsidian out of Lassen Creek, Jaspers up in the Hart Mountains, to common and fire opals to the west of Lakeview. I always welcome folks to come along on any of my rockhounding trips, and I don't hold anything back, aka top hunting spots. I believe that there is enough rocks out there for everyone, and I only have so much room. I'm always up for trading and I also have a bad habit of giving stuff away, just ask Fossilman LOL
