Satin finish is good too. You outa see Shawn at the ROCKSHED has big slabs of scenic Black Hills sandstone cut in big slans. It's got patterns like pic jasper or wonderstone. The grainy Ness gives it texture and depth. I also saw it at a knappers booth in Quartzsite with a 10 inch bladed obsidian knapped knife mounted for display. Very nice!

The coral knappers heat treat to make the rock flake easier Bill. But another reason is the waxy finish. I still have a hard time getting anything but a satin finish on stone softer than agate in my Viking vibe. It does epidote well and that is about it. Have a soft spot for satin finish too, so it's not a problem.

I like pattern and picture first and finish second. of course it's the bomb to have all three in a cab or slab James.
