This past weekend, I got to go to the 'Open House Jade Sale' of Mike B. here in Capay Valley. (thread here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/70435/jade-lovers-unite) I finally got my Genie running again, and cabbed a bit of it yesterday, and thought I'd share. Yukon Jade Feather River Jade Group shot. The top two are British Colombia, the darker one on the left is also Feather River Jade.

Nice Jade, I can cab the stuff, get like a layered edge and no shine. Wonder if you can tumble Jade?

Awesome! Wow, you got quite a few done already. They look very nice- nice polish and nice material, too. Great job!! Can't wait to see them wrapped.

Beautiful stuff! How are you polishing your jade cabs?
As for tumbling, I couldn't. A couple of handfuls of thin slab scraps got nicely rounded but stayed matte. I finished a few by hand, it took high pressure with AlO to get a half-decent polish, and it wasn't fun, they got HOT!

He said to use Chrome Oxide, almost dry. It needs heat, it actually melts on a microscopic level, (not sure if microscopic level is the right word but it's not like melting wax.)

I finished a few by hand, it took high pressure with AlO to get a half-decent polish, and it wasn't fun, they got HOT! For cabbing, I use moderately high pressure and a barely-wet leather with 100,000 grit (either diamond or super-cerium works). I have them on a nail or dop stick for better control, and because they get hot. With the leather wheel, I have to have a stick of some sort, otherwise the leather will grab it and yank it out of my hands. Beautiful jade. I wanted to make it to that sale, but couldn't. Too bad. It was only about an hour from home. Maybe it'll be an annual event....

Stephan, I think it is, when I talked to the woman. If I remember, this was the first time they had an 'Open House' and they were planning on making it an annual thing. It's a beautiful area, and a nice drive! I just saw someone post a place called 'jademine.com' and they had a sampling of jade for $50 a pound~ at the Open House, it was $2-5 a pound, and for the nicer pieces I got, $7.50 a pound.
Sire Roxalot, I polish it like stephan does, wet leather and up to 100,000 diamond paste.
