If someone says to you: "I still have an estimate amount of rough 40 to 50 thousand pounds not high graded." Does that mean that it's not high grade material or does it mean that they haven't sorted through it to cherry pick the high grade material? From the small example I have seen, I'd call it amazing, but I don't understand his statement.

I read that as it has not been cherry picked.
how many thousands of pounds are you getting now?

Yep 50000 is a bunch. About 25 tons. Get a plane ticket to Tony/ Catmandew. He has that much in just obsidian. I camped there for a week and prowler the dollar pile, it's more than 50000 pounds in a long dumped row. It's not cherry picked by Tony, just dumped there from auctions he buys. I don't know many rocks, found biggs, morrisonite, tiffany, gary green, graveyard, Amy sage, dino poop, several varieties obsidian, lace, etc, I found a bunch of good rough. Tony and Mikey would show me a piece and then I would start prowling. He also has pallets and barrels and buckets of separated stuff. I got a chair and just sat in the middle of the pile and dug away. Hey the 2 dollar pile is even bigger! I didn't find any gold but I bet there is some there!!!! LOL.

I'd be headed to Pennsylvania. Wonder if it's still snowing up there.

Holy crap... It's over $1700 to rent one of the smaller U Haul trucks (6,000 lb payload) to go from there (Pennsylvania) back to St Pete. Driving each way is no good either at 69¢ a mile.
This is gonna take some thinkin'

rent a semi and get it all, it should cost you $4 a mile one way. I like the way you think, but that's a bit more grandiose than my plan or budget. I'm a rock hoarder, not a seller, so I have no need for 40 to 50 tons of this stuff. Could make a small fortune if I were to follow your suggestion, but that much material would flood the market even spread out over several years. Would like to start with 5k to 6k pounds and see how that goes. May have to see if I can get him to pack & ship the load freight, but I had hoped to pick my own and transport it myself to lessen the amount of work he has to put into this. Not so sure he's anxious to sell, but I can probably talk him out of a few tons if he doesn't have to do much more than collect the cash. Sorry, I probably put this thread in the wrong section.

Tony will ship it to you on pallets, I think freight is 250 dollars. I was talking to him about getting a pallet of obsidian shipped here to sell to the east coast knappers. Obsidian is impossible to buy for knapping unless u get a good price. If you are percussion knapping a huge hunk makes one knife or spear. If you are slabbing and pressure flaking it's not as high of a waste but u don't get any spalls for arrow points And it's still a lot of waste. I think the eastern market for knapping material is wide open! Just thinking out loud....

I don't quite understand why I should be flying to Idaho to see Tony when the rocks are in Pennsylvania.
Pretty certain (99.5%) that there is no one else in the entire country other than this guy in Pennsylvania that has a hoard of this particular mineral specimen that can even come close to his stockpile.
Sorry, won't reveal what it is until I see if I can work a deal out.
