Hello all you dusty rock loving hounds, lapidarists, and for Jamesp and Jim/Wampidy unbalanced mental beings!LOL I luv those two. By the way Happy Birthday Jamesp!
Back to the subject of intarsia. I am going to venture into this lapidary field, of course it will have a Hillbilly twist!
What I need to know are what stones other than Opal and Turquoise will go together. By this I intend to use these two soft stones because I have plenty of both. I think if I mix hard and soft stones there will be a undercutting problem when I go to cab the glued together preform?
So folks I have my Bondo, steel wool and D.A. Orbital sander ready. Well there has to be some similarity to auto bodywork right? LOL
Seriously please tell me what soft stones will work or a combo of hard stones. Either match up will help. Remember I have no artistic ability in my brain! All I have is burning desire and mechanical ability.
Also it would be fantastic if you would post pics here of your intarsia please. I can get some ideas that way. I tried searching on the forum but only got really few and nonpertinent threads.
Thanks a bunch. Let's see some pics!!!

Never had tried intarsia, orrum, but what about materials such as gaspeite, red horn coral, and lapis?

Thanks guys but I need some pics. Thanks Gingerkid for soft materials, no joy cause ain't got non deem kind. I have thought of Lapis and Obsidian. No Lapis but got Obsidian.
You see my silversmith work is based on using up others scrap silver, remember I am a poor southern hillbilly. So I have lots of saw scrap from other folks and those pretty lil pieces are crying to be glued together to form awesome stunning beauty! Naturally in a rustic uneducated Appalachian hillbilly style..... This could get ugly....don't ever ask to see my dicroic glass projects or glass fusing work from Qusrtzsite! My mommy would bury it in the backyard before wearing it in public and tell me she lost it.

Sorry, no pics but here is a hillbilly soft stone hounding idea. (I have done it) Go to the nearest or other stone counter top store and see if you can pick through their marble scraps. You will be amazed at all the different colors and patterns waiting for someone to save them from the dump. If all fails, get in touch and I will send a couple of pieces as pay backs for the idea of using a soft stone that I just happen to have to make an intarsia that you happened to talk about in another thread. If that makes sense you have a better mind than me but I hope u get my drift. Jim
