Rio makes this look stupid easy and safe: Materials list includes gold in cyanide solution. www.riogrande.com/Content/pen-plating-VID-psd#tabs-MaterialsMSDS for this product makes this look stupid deadly and NOT safe. So which is it? kitchen table safe wearing nothing but thin plastic gloves and impact safety glasses, or deadly poison that should only be handled by professionals in hazmat suits?

I'm surprised that the cyanide solution is still available! Bob

Gloves dust mask and eyeglasses safe. All spills mopped up and saved for gold reclamation. Never work where you eat or clean dishes.
Use common sense and thoughtful contemplation about where and then clean up when done.

No matter how you look at it, the cyanide solutions outperform the cyanide-free ones every time. Just be careful and keep your head about you. Failing the ability to do that, turn the job over to someone who does know how to do it properly. I plated for many years in a jewelry shop environment, but not any more. It's just not worth the hassle. Now I have this 25 amp rectifier and a bunch of solutions that are sitting around collecting dust. Think long and hard about whether you want to get involved in it. My 2 cents
