So I came home from my Great Western Trip with stuff. Huge multiply barrel tumbler, lil itty bitty trim saw, lots of vintage tumbler barrels, and wait for it....HUGE SLAB SAW!!! The saw hasn't been used in years, just sitting in the desert with the lid open collecting lots of dirt, dirt sorta gummed up inches thick where it was oily. I think it's a Frantom. Tony told me but my mushy brain lost the name.
Anyway got the motor and switch wired up, the old wire was beyond rotten! Oiled the motor, err what kinda oil you put in these old dinosaurs. Motors just purrs! Arbor was frozen up, could not get grease into it, fittings bad so took them out and put penetrating oil in. Also took blade off and lubed that with PB Blaster under the sleeve over the bearing. Two or three times a day I would tap all of the arbor with a hickory hammer handle right sharp like. Then grab blade and big pulley and try to turn it, no movement. After 5 days it moved a little , next day it spun lose and is smooth as silk. Next is to clean all that gunk out of the saw and off all the parts of the carriage.
So it had a 12 inch blade on it. There would be room for more than a inch from the bottom of the blade to the bottom of the saw so maybe it's a 14?
So what sizes did Frantom make?
Looking at pictures is confusing. My saw has a auto feed in the back of the saw. I see no provision for a chain to turn it off when the carriage has gone far enough. The switch is on the right front leg. There are no holes for a gravity feed after market rig.
I cant post pics sorry. I got the big rumble running. I got the itty bitty trim saw working. Need more blades from it from John at jsgems. Want to figure out what size blade I need from him for the Frantom first.
Anybody know how to clean all that carriage from the rust, oil, crud and desert dust?
Thanks everybody. Bill
