I HATE POSTAL WORKERS! I probably wouldn't mind so much if this had been a 2 or 3 hundred dollar item, would just go for a refund or whatever. Problem is I got it for $49 + shipping. A huge score as I figure it is was worth considerably more than that. I don't want the money, I want it intact!! Granted, it should have been shipped upright rather than lying down. sassa frassa frickin frackin ... What it was supposed to look like - Perfect to put a small light behind to illuminate the interior. grrrrrrr...... doodyheads!

I like postal workers but very much dislike those who poorly pack stuff. That bites.

That was a pretty cool specimen. sorry for you loss. I would place the blame on the shipper on that one. The original photo looks pretty delicate and the are about three fractures radiating out and that's probably right where it broke. Sure would have been a steal at $49 though.

The boxes are handled by machines but I truly understand what it is like to receive broken stuff. Super sucks. Jim

Stop me if I'm wrong, but I'm wondering if it was glued (before sold)and before it was shipped-Those fracture lines look pretty heavy....

I don't think so Mike. The eBay listing had several pictures, including some rear angles and I'm thinkin' the cracks may have been weak points but were not from being repaired. www.ebay.com/itm/141655935582?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITI contacted the seller and they are going to check with their post office as to how to proceed with the insurance stuff. It's been so long since I received anything broken that I don't remember anything other than it was a PITA to deal with on my end. Maybe I'll offer to call it even if they refund half and I get to keep the pieces.

If you get to keep it and would be interested in selling a piece I would be interested in buying one. I have a friend that loves druzy and it is to my advantage to keep her happy. Jim

Still going back & forth with the seller on what's to come of it.
There is no druzy on this piece. It's plain ol amethyst crystals partially surrounded by a beautiful translucent blue agate. The agate is what made this piece special and worth far more than it cost.

Sorry Bob, I do not know the point where druzy changes to crystals. I have smoky, milky, clear and purple druzy so it must be a size thing that I do not know about. Eagerly awaiting to learn where that point is. Jim

The box looks to be in quite good shape. Simply looks like the seller did not pack it right. If so, then it would be wrong for the USPS to pay insurance. Bad claims make all of our insurance rates go up. I run a business and the UPS insurance rate has gone through the roof the last 3 years. (Similar at USPS - they say they have a ton of fraudulent claims). My shipping insurance is almost as much as the actual weight cost because I ship pretty expensive items. In over 15 years and over 10,000 items shipped I have only made 2 or 3 claims I think. So it makes me frustrated to see high insurance and essentially to pay for other shippers' poor packing. I am reducing the insurance coverage on my items to about 50%, but I can't take a chance and ship uninsured. I just know Murphy's law will come up and bite me a big one once that happens.
Just my 2cents.

The box looks to be in quite good shape. Simply looks like the seller did not pack it right. If so, then it would be wrong for the USPS to pay insurance. IF we get that far (insurance claim) I will have to take the box, packing and item (all saved) to the post office. I'm sure they (USPS) will agree it was a packing problem as the box shows absolutely no damage or abuse. Item was well packed for hits from the side, but obviously not adequately for a drop of any distance. BUT... if the folks that handled this along the way didn't treat all boxes as though there is nothing more fragile than books inside, it might have made it. Darn shame either way. It's been so long since I've received anything broken that I'm not sure if I'm supposed to file something with eBay or just wait for the seller's response. Figure I have some time, so I will wait until Monday to hear from the seller before looking further into what kinda hoops I have to jump through for eBay.
