Had a lot of fun hanging out with Pat and stoner Saturday morning at their club rock sale at Pat's house in San Jose. Picked up a nice little haul of fun stuff to cut and a few slabs as well. Among the cutters was this piece showing green poppies from the outside and I'm wondering if anyone recognizes where it's from. I'm not sure if it will be of lapidary grade - the red areas are somewhat porous - I'm just curious about it more than anything.

Lots of green poppy jasper up north of SF Bay area in Napa County in places like Pope Valley but they look more like Kabamby Jasper with green and yellow poppies. Also some olive drab green from Guadalupe but I've never seen any exactly like your example. That's some strange looking jasper...Mel

That looks like an aerial view of the western Sierra hillside. Hope the green orbs remain when you slice it. Always good to see you and your wife!
Yes, we want to see the rest. Seems to me that you also got some big Stone Canyon as well as other good stuff.

I'm seriously considering joining your metal arts class as we discussed. Haha OK if you insist – Along with the green poppy these are a few of my favorite finds – sorry for the crappy quality photos. Killer slab of Maury Mtn – it’s solid and no fractures at all and the red lightning bolt in the middle starkly contrasts the typical dark red of this material. It’s going to make some freakishly nice cabochons haha. Nice 1lb piece of crazy lace – have only cut one slab so far – need to glue it to a board to keep the orientation correct. I see some darker reds coming up soon I hope. Not sure what this little nodule is but it yielded four solid large-cab sized slabbettes. The colors are bright and bold and I think it could be kaleidoscope jasper. Picked up several slabs of this killer plume agate – not sure what kind it is. It’s got cracks but between the cracks should yield some beautiful cabochons. I also brought home several nice chunks of Stone Canyon that looks to have a lot of agate. I haven’t cut any of that yet so no photos of it.

I really like that crazy lace with the two dandelions in it. Heck with the Stone Canyon!
Hope the metal smithing works out for you.

Got a few more pieces cut tonight... I almost did a happy dance when I found this one on the "specials" table. It's the only piece that I didn't pay $0.50 per pound for...the "special" price was $2.00 total heehee. It weighed almost 3lbs before cutting. This beautiful piece of magnesite marble is one of many rocks that stoner Ed slipped in my basket from the free-table when I wasn't looking. Actually I thought it was howlite from the outside so I passed it by but Ed ID'd it and now I'm doing another happy dance. I love working with this stuff and it makes beautiful cabs. Found a nice slab of Nipomo plume marcasite - excuse the crappy photo. Last one for tonight - some kind of fuggley jasper. I had high hopes for this one because its about a 15 lb rock
