i'm also bringing my sluce box, metal detector and gold pan... never tried on the river before so who knows what is down there
i'll let everyone know how the trip goes next week

little tired just got back... found some amazing stuff and went to places that noone has ever been before.... and that no atv could get to... a few bear tracks also.... I got lots of pics I got a few good pieces of ash that were easy to get but I mainly got other stuff... also got a 40-50 lb agate... my largest so far... next month i'll probably find some geodes, thundereggs and agates larger than a truck accouding to one friend that noone can move. i'll post pics soon... i'm dead tired now.... and soar

Really nice pics Glenn! And holy moly at that bear paw print thats a small bear print we seen.... seen a few older ones that were a lot larger but were older so I didn't take a pic.. we had a 44. with us because the bear spray went missing in my buddies house.. hardly ever need it though but one never knows. I'n presuming my large agate is going to be white on the inside but its the largest i have found so far at least until next month. How does its size compare to those found in the lower 48? This one is kinda small... the largest ones can be the size of a ford f-350 or larger.... I know a guy that pulled out a 1000 lb agate... needed a fill size heavy machenery trailer to move it.

gorgeous place to hunt... bear! oh my!.... looking forward to seeing pics of your finds, looks like great hunting grounds! As far as comparing to agates found elsewhere, there are so many kinds of agate it is kind of an apples to oranges comparison. We can find very(very) large white to couldy/clear agate material here, stained on the outside and cloudy shadows on the inside. It is not in demand compared to the colorful things people find elsewhere, each area has its own. It would be interesting to see what it looks like when you clean it up. Will you cut it? thanks for all the photos, makes me wish I could hunt there too!

Thanks for the pics! Wasp and hornet spray makes great bear repellant. Sprays for 30 feet and has a long lasting supply.

Bet you better not be in that narrow canyon when the rain comes. Serious rugged turf you got there Glenn. Be careful up there.

Thanks for the pics! Wasp and hornet spray makes great bear repellant. Sprays for 30 feet and has a long lasting supply. I'd be careful with the substitute sprays. Here's what the biologists say... Wasp spray requires careful aim and is not designed to incapacitate large animals: Wasp spray disperses in a direct stream, which would necessitate a direct hit by the user, likely to the bear’s eyes or face. Bear spray, on the other hand, disperses in a wide fog, which means that the person spraying it does not need to have accurate aim for it to still be effective. While no deterrent is 100 percent effective in all situations, research and actual use has proven that bear spray can be an effective deterrent against advancing bears. Wasp spray, while cheaper, is not designed for use on large animals and has not been proven effective as a wildlife deterrent. Wasp spray is a poison: Approved bear spray contains capsaicin, a chemical derived from cayenne peppers that temporarily disables bears, or people, without typically causing permanent harm. In contrast, wasp spray is a poison that could be harmful to both people and bears. The active ingredient in most wasp sprays are pyrethrins, natural organic compounds designed to penetrate the nervous system of insects and kill them. Even though some self-defense experts have recommended the use of wasp spray instead of mace against people, safety concerns are significant enough that some states have specifically outlawed the use of any self-defense sprays other than pepper sprays (those containing capsaicin. ADF&G biologists Sean Farley, Larry Lewis, Dick Shideler and Jeff Selinger contributed to this response. More information about the use of wasp spray as an alternative to pepper spray was found on Snopes.com.

yeah... the river was really low and doesn't come from many miles... at least on the first one... the canyon was small but the water was too deep for me to cross in one area... maybe in another month it will be low enough to cross.
I will cit that agate eventually presuming my saw can cut it... I think it can handle it one way at least... I just brought it back out of storage to be relocated along with a lot of other stuff I got.. this year i got at least 250+ lbs of material now (3 full 5 gallon buckets) that I have someone willing to go with me that also has an atv. Stuff that I like but most people in other states wouldn't care much for. granted I have a lot of rhyolite that is ether really good or junk... need to cut it first... it has the blue grey color on the inside and can sometimes be solid only.
