Gotta love the gusto of the old school dudes ( jakesrocks) gingerkid. By the same token, the monument was built by the old school mad men that hung on scaffolds without safety harnesses. With OSHA alive and well it would cost mega bucks to do anything to that monument. They even built it graffiti proof, 400 feet up to the lowest point. Love to see them try to get up there with spray paint. Hell, we were raised on that music. Them boys were from Jax. started the ole southern rockers

History is under siege in these parts Bill. As the fellow mentioned, white washing it. He has a very clear picture of the events as I always understood the history of Stone Mountain. I as born and raised 25 miles from there, same county. The conflict is making new history. The erasing of old history ?? New concept...incredible. It is not about history, it is more about inflicting and stirring up past issues. Apparently a new majority of history erasers. Still a lot of anger and bitterness floating around. Next will be a book burning, better burn the internet while they are at it. Cause events are well recorded.

They've even jumped onto the "rewrite history" bandwagon here on the left coast.
"Some" community members... They are going to tell everyone else how to think. This school is in Paradise Valley (southern California), no more than a mile or so from me. For the record, over 75% of the students are Hispanic, only 5.5% are black. Sounds like a minority to me.
Funny that California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez has said her office "is requesting the school be renamed publicly in order to invite a broader public dialogue about the issue." They say that publicly, but I'm sure they do not want to hear opinions that are different from theirs. Also read the comments at the end, seems a lot of people are against this erasing history / renaming BS.
Not to be outdone, there is another group busy rewriting in Long Beach. link When will it end? Where will it end?

I remember a fictional society in a sci fi book I once read, Their history started with the day the lawyers died. That might not be so bad.

spineless govt. rolling over for the squeakiest wheel Jean
A high percentage minority govt in Atlanta has caused a cancer for other parts of the country. West govt sees east govt, follows like sheep.
Robert E. Lee Elementary, that makes my day. Talk about a bullseye for our new Klan.

200 signatures out of 5 million people, yep, time to change ole Robert E. Lee Elementary.
200/4,999,800 ratio-sounds split right down the middle.
Remember crooked ole Boss Hog on Dukes of Hazzard, "W'e'll split it right down the middle, 60/40"
Perhaps a gnashing of teeth when the Obama reign is over. Let's hope.

On the subject of slavery, which was an oppression of black people. No doubt. Oppression towards white male has been on the uprise in recent years.
A clear example occurred to me in 1981 under Reagan's term.
My engineering class of 1981 was having recruiters interview us on campus. We were a mixed bunch, friends, and shared information openly. Union Carbide and Schlumberger ?(oil drilling operation) was doing mass interviewing/hiring.
The offers were $100/month in varying salary. Black female getting highest offers, white male the lowest offer. Black female White female Black male White male
They the corporations were on a bandwagon to hire minorities for govt incentives. I can honestly say that it did not bother me. I suppose people were more TOLERANT back then. There have been many minority incentives issued by the govt. since. And pretty much left the white male at the bottom of the 'token' choice. If you ask me, I believe the white male would be least likely to complain about such incentives. I also believe that the entitlement attitude was being birthed in this country at that time due to such incentives. Attitude of a white male-get er done-, and don't cry or whine. Crank out the work and shut up, be a man. Ha, that's what you good for not protesting.

James, I think you can trace the history of what you experienced to LBJ's Civil Rights Act of 1964 and his signing of the Equal Employee Opportunity Commission legislation the same year: www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/history/50th/index.cfmThose most affected negatively were politically complacent then, as you point out, and much the same thing is happening now. America is definitely being "transformed."

Black Mississippi Confederate flag supporter dies after rally when 'car full of jeering African American men forced him off the road'www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3168224/Black-Mississippi-flag-supporter-dies-traffic-accident.htmlA black Mississippi man who often dressed in Confederate regalia to support the state flag has died in a one-car accident.
The Highway Patrol says 49-year-old Anthony Hervey was killed Sunday when the 2005 Ford Explorer he was driving left the roadway and overturned on Mississippi Highway 6 in Lafayette County.
A passenger in Harvey's car, Arlene Barnum, tells The Associated Press that Hervey swerved and crashed after another vehicle carrying four or five young black men pulled up alongside them, yelling and looking angry. NOT news. Blacks causing Black death.

Texas Confederate monument vandalized overnight with graffiti that says 'This is racist'www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3168593/Texas-Confederate-monument-vandalized-overnight-racist-graffiti.htmlA Confederate monument in Texas was vandalized with spray paint over night.
The Confederate Soldiers Monument in Denton Square was discovered with the graffiti on Monday morning.
The words 'Our Confederate Soldiers', carved on the top of the monument, were covered in red spray paint with the words 'This is racist'.
The statue, located outside the Denton County Courthouse, has been at the center of a debate with many pushing to have it removed, NBCDFW reported."with many pushing to have it removed" Of course they are. Never let a crisis go to waste! Tar & feather a few of these miscreants and they will probably stay home in mom's basement instead of trying to increase the divide. Okay... I'd settle for jail time and a huge fine. Vandalism is not a First Amendment right.

Present status, a black man in a white barber shop gets better treatment than a white man in a black barbershop here in Atlanta-my experience. They parade black victories and trash white Presidents right in front of me. Almost regularly. I visit two shops, one of each color. Lack of tact, or intentional, not sure. Just an observer here, and I quit going to the black barber shop. Respect toward the blacks at the white shop, avoiding controversial stuff. Changed to a black salon, ladies. Never hear hide nor peep about politics, just friendly and accommodating.
The younger ones are worse, but even my aged blacks have stirred this stuff. Funny, yet another black barbershop a bit further away, a more northern bunch. No issues there, always felt comfortable there. Black Steak and Shake, the manager in there is obnoxious and obvious. The Jamaican spot across the street is totally warm and very friendly.
Atlanta has a high percentage of blacks. Especially on the south side here. I pretty much can read them. trouble/not trouble Gun point twice, knife point once, assaulted twice. 58 years in Atlanta. All black. Robbed once by a white. Maybe the ratio of white to black is about 1 to 4. Fair enough. I watch who is around me in urban areas very carefully. In certain parts of town. Am comfortable out in the rural area I live in. But in-town Atlanta is no place to move freely.

[quote author="jamesp" source'Equal' sounds deceptive after seeing what is real. thanks gemfeller [/quote] I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Keeping employers in compliance with all the hokum laws resulting from that LBJ action earns my wife a nice income as an HR consultant. In my day hiring and firing were a fairly simple matter. Now an employer risks major lawsuits by saying or doing the "wrong" things. As an example, an employer had better be mighty careful when called for references on a former employee. They have to choose words as if they're tip-toeing through a mine field and sometimes face huge fines if they tell the truth about laziness, drug use, etc. Wrongful termination lawsuits are endemic. [/p]
That's not to say there haven't been abusive actions by employers. I can remember quitting a grocery store job after a 12-hour shift of stocking shelves and bagging. When the store closed the manager hauled out mops and buckets and told us to clean the store. I was dog-tired, practically asleep on my feet, and I told him what he could do with his mop handle. But now things have come full-circle.

Takes a lot of training and practice to avoid getting in trouble with the employees this day and age. Makes it hard to get work out of them, and takes away leverage. Extreme behavior on both management's and employee's behalves made most of the rules. The labor of documenting has out weighed the labor of managing.

Whats next, No Oath of Allegiance at all? Obama Administration Strips Requirement to Defend The United States From Citizenship Oath The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has "clarified" requirements for individuals becoming naturalized citizens by stripping out the requirement of defending the United States through military service. "Effective July 21, 2015, new guidance (PA-2015-001) in the USCIS Policy Manual clarifies the eligibility requirements for modifications to the Oath of Allegiance. Reciting the Oath is part of the naturalization process. Candidates for citizenship normally declare that they will “bear arms on behalf of the United States” and “perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States” when required by the law. A candidate may be eligible to exclude these two clauses based on religious training and belief or a conscientious objection," an email from USCIS clarifying the requirements states (bolding is mine). townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2015/07/22/obama-administration-strips-requirement-to-defend-the-united-states-from-citizenship-oath-n2028889

Two terms at the helm. It is a surprise that Obama did not do more damage than he did when you look at many of his actions. Just think about a really deliberate strong individual as President with Obama's mindset. Be thankful that he is a moron.

Group Fed Up With Waiting Begin Digging Up Confederate General’s Grave wreg.com/2015/07/22/group-takes-a-shovel-to-confederate-generals-grave/A group was fed up with waiting, so they got a shovel and dug up a patch of grass next to Nathan Bedford Forrest’s grave and statue in a public park in the Medical District.
The group says they wanted the statue and remains removed for a long time, because he was a Confederate soldier, a KKK leader and a slave trader. The City Council agreed to move the statue and the remains.
Now state law requires the Tennessee Historical Commission to sign off.
The issue will have to go before the Chancery Court as well.
The group told WREG if the process took too long, they could take more drastic measures.
“We are going to bring the back hoe, the tractors and the men with the equipment to raise Bedford Forrest from the soil of Memphis,” said Richmond.

MICHELLE OBAMA : "Barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices; we are going to have to change our conversation; we're going to have to change our traditions, our history; we're going to have to move into a different place as a nation."
Had we known, we would have picked the cotton ourselves.

Side bet - 5 bucks says he hands Gitmo back over to Cuba before he's out of office.

I never fact checked this. But would not surprise me if it were true.
HARRISBURG, PA - On the heels of the Confederate flag controversy, the City Council of Harrisburg voted to permanently close the doors of the Civil War Museum last week.
This decision resulted in hiring a small workforce tasked with packing the delicate artifacts that have been held inside its walls for decades. The new temporary hires, however, were infiltrated by a group of activists disguised as workers, who took it upon themselves to destroy what they called "shrines to racism, bigotry, and hate." Without authorization, nor the real work crew's knowledge, they collected various Confederate artifacts and burned them behind the building, out of sight of the museum staff.
Some of the destroyed historical artifacts were original confederate uniforms, rifles, equipment, flags, and swords. After the anti-Confederate activists burned all of the items they were able to carry outside quickly, they walked away, abandoning the site and leaving a smoldering pile of ashes with the remains of swords, muskets, and metal buttons for horrified museum staff to discover.
The perpetrators, who took careful measures to conceal their identities, later sent an email to the museum director, claiming that thanks to their "righteous" effort "white racists" will have one less "depraved" memorial where they can "worship the ignorance of those whom history should completely forget." The email also stated that "to continue to allow the existence of the last few physical remnants of the Confederate States of America is an appalling failure of social morality."
One of the burned uniforms belonged to Confederate soldier Sgt. Isiah Woodland of the 33rd Virginia Infantry Regiment. It was on loan to the museum by the Woodland family and was scheduled to be returned the following day. James Woodland, the great-great-great-grandson of Sgt. Woodland, gave a tearful statement to reporters who visited him the following day.
"I can remember going to that museum every summer growing up, looking at my great-grandfather's uniform behind that glass case. He wore that at the First Battle of Bull Run under command of General Stonewall Jackson. I was always proud of my family's history. I wanted to share my childhood experiences of seeing this uniform with my own children when they are old enough to understand. It is not only my family's history that is being erased, but our country's history as well. It is all the worse that these acts are done by belligerently thoughtless people."
The Director of the Museum, Dr. Robert Mumford, said in a Facebook post from the museum's page, "The destruction of Confederate artifacts by political activists is startlingly close to the actions of ISIS, who are destroying historical sites in their part of the world. An attempt to erase history that you find offensive, with these kinds of methods, is the epitome of ignorance. It serves no other purpose than to rob our future generations, not only of their national treasures, but of their historical memory."
