Maybe she'll change her mind, jamesp, but you and Denise have a nice place in Georgia, too. Rick would like for us to find a place around Lake Seminole or outside of Thomasville, GA when he retires. Either locations would be closer to family.

omg, jamesp, you've been to Spring Creek? Rick LOVES Spring Creek. He tried to talk me into going there this weekend so we could pull the kayaks and fish. But we decided to wait until it's not so hot. My SIL told us that there's gators at Spring Creek now, and saw them when she and my other SIL went fishing there not too long ago. I told Rick I was not getting in the water to wrestle with a gator. He said they are only at one location on the creek. Is he telling me the truth?

My theory on gators is 'any creek that flows into a large lake full of large gators has capability of having large gators' gingerkid. Eufaula is a gator paradise north of Seminole. Only been to Spring 4-5 times and do not recall seeing a gator. That is an open clear creek and not a likely habitat for them. There is a small spring on the right going downstream. I went up it's run on a jet ski and assholes had left trash around the spring bank. The land owner caught me cleaning the trash up(a retired state trooper) and was thankful, invited me up to his large farm. Had he caught me leaving trash I would have spent the weekend in jail, judging from his demeanor LOL. He walked me over to a spot behind his fence that had a bunch of small blue holes clustered together. It was a breath taker. Had a big corn/bean field that he leased to a farmer. The place was covered with flint debitage where the plowed field came close to the spring cluster. Got me a permission to collect arrowheads in his field and scored well. Always regretted not going back and asking him to collect the field for a full day. SW corner of GA is a gold mine for arrowheads. Coastal plain chert everywhere. Flint River shoals a fine way to spend the hottest days snorkeling for artifacts, cool coastal chert and fossils. The local boys have some of the finest artifact collections on earth. Check out this paperback, it is Bible of Florida/S. Georgia artifacts. Son Anderson's finer points, mostly out of coral www.sonandersonartifacts.com/museum/

Very kind gesture from the retired state trooper for inviting you to look for arrowheads on his land after he discovered you picking up trash, jamesp. Thank you for the link to the website, and will definitely check it out and the book, too. Rick said that there were alligators at the lower end of Spring Creek. He spent his younger years in Blakely and then his family moved to Bainbridge when he was a senior in high school.

The Suwannee and Withlacoochee have very few large gators, never seen one over 4 feet. High bank rivers devoid of attached swamp land is not their forte. Best to go at night with a spot light, then the red eyes will give a count.

yep, they got him. there was a 12 foot tan gator messing with me when i was out in the lake wade fishing. apparently an arrowhead hunter was walking in front of my gator frontage and got his calf muscle torn off. They got him, he was light colored. Found that out when I got back to Atlanta. Bet ya it was the same gator that was stalking me while fishing. He made me very frightened, and slapped his tail on the water not 50 feet from me. I was in grave danger that day. Never had that happen. No more fishing alone for me, call my cousins to reduce the odds.
