I have an old lewaco brand 18" saw and the feed on it cuts rock to a certain point and then won't feed anymore. the spring tension on the threaded brass 1/2 nut guides keeps jumping. when tensioner is open it slides freely back and forth on the guides. would it be brass worn or long threaded rod worn, are replacement parts even available or is it time to rig it as a gravity fed saw? HELP

No. Many use 1/2-20 but not all. Rethreading the brass nut you have is where I would start. If you can post a pic, I am not familiar with how Lewaco set up their half nuts. If they are brass I would clamp them together and run a tap through to get new threads. If it turns out you are getting a flat area on your feed screw you can always use a thread file.

I can take phone pic and send to you or another member to post threaded brass nut. I really don't think i'll find anything close at an old hardware store, thanks for the advice, mark.

Mark the lewaco has a double -- if you look the brass pieces have half threads on the outside where they are bolted on , you can take them off and reverse them for new threads --another thing you can check is the little roller on the rail by the blade --sometimes my vise gets stuck if the one right by the blade has goop in it ( doesn't want to turn freely) it normally hits this about the time your rock is at the thickest part (which takes longer for it to cut) and will stall out --at times I have put a vise grip on the half nuts right where the handle screws in (tension just a little more than the spring ) and it will cut on thu -- also some times it wants a blade dressing hope this helps ---- now if you don't like the saw and want to get rid of it ? just let me know !! ha ha ! they went out of business in the mid 80's so not much chance of finding parts dave

ill try flipping top to bottom dave, the roller is good, as I can roll the carriage freely back and forth with nut disengaged. already tightened the spring, I put a rubber bungie cord on it as to help pull it along. rockoonz I sent some pics. to your phone, thanks all for your input, mark.

Mark, go end to end, ---- the top piece should have threads on the top edge on the left end while it sits on the threaded shaft with the other end --- and the same with the bottom piece, should have threads on the left end bottom while against the shaft with the right end, and both ends are drilled for the bolts -- hope this explains it better
