Life is good! So many things make me smile! The smell of star jasmine in the air, molten lava cake, being alone with the person I love, good times with family and friends, Tuesday nights when I get to work on my cabochons, otters, vacations.....And, yes, Scott @shotgunner, I know lots of things that make you smile too!

I say, that the simple things in life are the best. And simple things make me smile.... Most everything is worth a smile.
That's what the world needs a day to smile. Smile, like a champ. DAY maybe the first of every month. :)

Watching my nine year old and his puppy having equal fun chasing lightning bugs. I love lightning bugs - the one joy that we don't experience here on the west coast. Every time I go to the east and see them, I'm simply amazed. That's just good stuff. I can think of nothing that would bring more joy to a youngster...and parent. Dave

@garagerocker Thanks for posting the video. I've never seen one. We have bugs that look like yours, but they never light up!
Neat!

When my grand daughter was young, she came to visit one summer. We have lightning bugs, she didn't where she was. She was probably 5. The first time she saw them, her face lit up like she had seen an angel and she exclaimed in a very sweet, quiet voice, "Those are the most beautiful things I have ever seen." She was absolutely enthralled. So, of course, I had to get her a little mason jar, so she could have her own light. She had a blast catching them.
I remember driving at night through virgin logging country in the very northeast of Maine near Canada. I was about her age. The woods were black as night on neither side... until the lightning bugs came out. They lit up the woods with 1000s of twinkling stars. I'll never forget it. It was almost as magical as the Northern Lights.

It was almost as magical as the Northern Lights. More magical. I've seen northern lights at my home. Solar maximum or some such.... We don't have fireflies. Actually we do, they don't fly and only one gender has the fire. If you are walking rattlesnake infested trails after dark in summer you can see them, on occasion. Saw them once in a local mountain range. Once.
