He was indeed a good guy and will be missed. Please help his daughter cover his final expenses. He was always very proud of her and she probably had the biggest jewelry box ever.

Very saddened by this news. He was a rugged individualist and a good man. Rest well John, you are no longer a nomad.

Sorry to hear that ! I got to know him when we went to Burro Creek a few years ago ---he was having back pain and stayed in camp most of the time, so I stayed with him just to hear him tell stories of his earlier days ----and what stories they were !!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will be missed !! Snowdog I was also at the Burro Creek hunt. He always had that darn cigar!! LOL I loved his laugh and east coast twang. I will miss him dearly!! Sheri

So sorry to hear this! Even if I didn't meet John personally, I always enjoyed his friendly, straight and humorous approach in the dialogues.
His "cabojohns" are something not easy to accomplish, but he mastered them and made them so beautiful.
My deepest condoleances to the family. Rest in peace, John Sandsman!

one of greats things about RTH was Sands as moderator one of kind unique Moderator!!
left people to their own devises and demise the few times I saw him intervene he did with class and thought
otherwise he had little to say except short devil may care humor
I always enjoyed what few interactions I had with him
Rock In Peace

Glad we got to make that Burro Creek trip together, he sure had some great stories! He is telling stories tonight at a different campfire. Till we meet again my friend!

Although I never met John, I valued his knowledge on stones. I traded with him often and will always keep his "cabojohns" in my collection. RIP John...
