I didn't know Sandsman, either, but apparently he was highly regarded as a friend and associate by many here. I would have liked to have known him, but somethings just aren't to be. My prayers are with his family and friends.

Hello all. My name is Kit, and I'm here with my fiancee Christine, who was John's daughter. We want to thank you for your kind words and thoughts. We are emotionally overwhelmed by the response from your community. We're truly devastated by his passing, and are dropping everything to head out there and handle the arrangements and his affairs. We will continue to post updates in this thread as we attain more information. Thank you, all of you, for caring and being such an important part of his life. If you are in a position to help financially, please consider a donation to his memorial fund.

My heart is heavy as I read this message. Sands was one of the first people to communicate with me when I joined this board. Always encouraging, friendly and loved to joke around. It was a true pleasure to know him here with his RTH family. God bless Sands and his family at this very sad time.

Based on the notes of sadness and respect, not only did Sandman's family suffer a great loss, but ALL the members of our forum. RIP my unknown rock friend!

Hi all. Sorry it's taken so long to post an update. This past month and a half has been a hectic nightmare for us.
John passed away early October in his sleep due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease complicated by diabetes. His remains were cremated on Friday, October 30th, and his ashes remain with us until we're able to return to New Mexico to spread them in the various places he loved. We also plan to have some of them turned to gems when it becomes financially feasible.
We transported more than a thousand pounds of uncut rock, as well as all of his lapidary equipment, a few hours away to my mother's house in Albuquerque. It is our sincere hope to return to New Mexico and take up his craft as our own. We also recovered cut and polished stones, some of which we plan to distribute to members of this forum who would like a keepsake of John.
To all of you who gave us money, words can not express how grateful we are. We were poor to begin with, and after missing work and all of the expenses, we're in a hole so deep it's hard to see the light at the top. Nevertheless, it frightens us to think of where we'd be without your kindness. Thank you, so very very much.
Lastly, we want to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for being such an important and positive part of his life. You guys ROCK!
