It is working exactly like mine. You should level it better. It's a pain in the arse:)
Looking good

If its not gritty I would change it out, I have not fired mine up for a year but 4Tbsp seems like more than I used. Thing is? Do you need more at 220, are the faces still scratched? To test to see if I was going to the next grit I drew and X on the face of the rock with a pencil (as internet suggested) If the X is totally gone in 5 minutes its time to move on. I gave up on the pencil and just drew the heck all over the face with a medium sharpie:) Its easier to see and in 5 minutes is still gone.
You may not wish to use a sharpie on porous material.
I am by no means a pro with this unit but I used to get nice results.

The polishing pad is just a piece of carpet. Buy the lowest nap you can find and cut to size. Maybe you could find something like a door welcome mat if you can't find a good scrap piece.

Is it a cloth like fiber? I would think that would be fine. Not thinking the fake astroturf type stuff would work so well. Don't believe the rocks will care what color you pick to use

No, I was giving the color in description because of how common it is (commercial places like Dr offices). Yeah it'll be white/gray in no time polishing.

You know what I think the factory stuff is? Marine grade carpet, to me it is identical. And it makes sense as its water proof. Willing to bet it's the same stuff. Any carpet shop will have it. Or maybe a marine shop. I can't remember where I got mine when I redid the boat. Sorry for the late answers

I have a new one downstairs and just took a look at it, I am pretty certain it is the cheap thin nap marine carpet, and you are welcome sir!

Looks great, level it out. Iif Grit has broken down after 2-3 hrs go to next and use a good wool carpet for the polishing pad.... can't go wrong
