Took some better photos of the stones I've worked on over the last month or so. Some are repeats. Unknown material. Overall soft and mixed hardness. The bright white seems to have a perfect cleavage, and the dark green is slightly harder Opal found mostly-sanded in an estate collection. Subtle but pretty. Two small variscites from the same collection. Large variscite from the same collection. Small moss agate from the same collection That Royal Aztec Lace, backlit. From radioUnknown. Feels like glass or obsidian - somewhat softer than regular agate. Slabbette from club sale Fluorite from a poorly-cut cab at a bead store Kona Dolomite from Drummond Island RocksUnknown agate from Donnie's Rocky TreasuresUnknown softer stone (travertine onyx?). Preform from marinedadUnknown mossy agate (Rio?). Preform from marinedadPicture jasper from catmandeweThe sweetie - OJ from roySuper thin and low domed

nice thin OJ - I wonder if your unknown is some sort of opal.

Is the green, unknown one at the top from me? It looks very familiar and might have been in the things I sent. If it is from me, that was some material I got near Coulterville, Ca. while collecting Mariposite. I don't know what the heck it is, but at least this might be a clue.
Killer cabs, and I admire your determination hand sanding them!

Most of them has a pretty good polish, lots of elbow grease put to good use. Them softer stones are still pretty and neat, especially that banded onyx. Looks onyx to me.

Lots of nice work there, I love the moss agate. I don't have the patience for hand work like that.

You are quite obviously a very patience person and proof that patience pays off. You have some great cabs there with nice shapes, too. I can't even use my flat lap because I can't handle the cabs and here you are even doing little ones by hand. You go girl!!!
I am going with the variscite- love that stuff.

Beautiful cabs, micellular! As snowmom would say, I think the fluorite cab is da bomb! You are doing these by hand?

gingerkid, these were done with a combo of machine shaping and hand-sanding. Mostly domed on machine and polished by hand, but I'm starting to transition back to polishing by machine. My wheels aren't great though (super aggressive refurbished JBLs) so I actually get a better polish by hand than by wheel.
