There is a lot I don't know about agates, but I'm not inclined to call this an agate. Nary a conchoidal fracture visible to this old man's eyes and the flaking shown where it is breaking makes me think a more quartz or quartzite like origin. Shall we guess a green chert? Just postulating. tom

Thanks guys I like it too. Yes the fracturing is throwing me off too. it's not like an agate. but there is banding so I'm not sure. i thought chert also but i feel like chert doesn't usually fracture/flake like this either. hmmm

Could be opal, looks a little like limestone though, if you send me 20 pounds of it I'll inspect it and give you another opinion for free

hi all, just reporting back with some interesting info. i did a couple of hardness tests.
Quartz did not scratch it and it was able to scratch quartz...
Harder than Moh's 7.
hmm.

In the last picture you got a couple of pieces that look like wood,.... but with the presumed hardness? ?

dont have cutting capabilities but will tumble yes. yeah it does resemble wood a bit thats why i thought agate at first it looked like banding. still stumped regarding the hardness.

Any chance it's Jade? I've heard that can be found in Nevada, but not sure about that far south.

Did a specific gravity test: 3.00 That points to something rather than silicate. Got a small piece? Hit it with a sledge and show us the piece(s). Scratch it onto the underside of your toilet tank lid. What color is left behind? What is green, high specific gravity and harder than Quartz? Sabre52 gemfeller anybody

The smash test was very glassy and shattery. the pieces went flying everywhere. here is the best before and after i could get, hope it helps. Before After

So not tough like jade. But not glassy lacking a conchoidal break.
Ill bet burning some in a mapp gas torch will make yellow flame.
You got a tough one!
