Nice colours and patterns. They would display nicely in a straw basket on a bed of plastic grass. Rock candy.

Yes, rock candy. Is there two the same ? Wow here's the best part, many of these stones are not native to the Sidney Mt area which makes identification next to impossible. Plus being new to the area doesn't help either. You research, you identify via images, look up the particular stone and there's no information that's pertains to your location. I believe I know what some of these stones are but according to the Internet that stone isn't found in my area. The Yellowstone River is a rock hunters dream come true and it also can be hell on earth (lol jk) every spot I go to has a different variety, endless types of jasper it's insane. I read a quote from someone on the internet who finally gave me hope that I wasn't loosing my mind... "just because you find a stone in a certain location DOESN'T necessarily mean that the stone you found is native to the area"... Thank you professor lol whew

Thank you professor lol whew IMO no better spot than washed in rocks from a broad area. That usually means rivers. Sounds like your Yellowstone has brought in a wide variety Wendy. Take advantage. If you are a rock lover you should be in heaven there. Even the best variety gets old if it is the only type of rock around. Large ancient washes often have thousands of never identified rocks. There is too many different habitats for formation to ID but a small percentage of them. Are you from that area or a transplant ? Think you will be living there for future years ?

I'm somewhere either on the river or I'm at one of three gravel pits every single day except maybe a dozen days I couldn't make it. Other than that I'm 100% infected with the "rock virus!" I love them all, there's beauty in every stone. Right? I moved to Sidney 3 yrs ago and I've been at it ever since. People repeatedly tell me "those are JUST rocks, they call them leave-r-rights." lol little do they know these "rocks" have a name. the treasures are in abundance and I've got a garage half full to prove it. Lol no joke I'll be honest, I'm not fond of the town itself, it's boring. Live music is unheard of, shopping at shopko gets old and yeah.. But I love the river, being outside, searching for pretty things and connecting with nature. It's therapeutic for me. I'm not sure if I'll be able to actually call Sidney home but for now it's a killer spot to feed my passion and obsession

Trip photos always a big hit with this bunch. You should try to post your ventures, especially in that area.
