Hello all,
Has anyone on this board ever visited Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas? My 8 year old daughter and I are planning a trip there for this spring or summer. Looking for info on where to stay, what to do (when not searching for diamonds), etc. Any info from people that have been there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Meh, I went last summer with kids. More or less walked around looking for bacon agate (no luck). It gets very hot. There are some shade trees but those are way in the back. Its not as exciting as one thinks. I dont mean to be a debby downer, but there are quartz crystal places in the area that are much more rewarding!

www.rockhoundingar.com/feepay.phpRon Coleman is the one I went to. They said that day kids were pulling out crystals as long as your forearm out of the dump piles (it was muddy). You can also pay a little bit more and they'll take you down to the mine to dig. It's a no-break mine. Just dig and carry. There were boulders with crystals probably 1/2-1" thick around and as clear as can be. Could get em cause I couldn't lift the damn thing! They will also get a commercial machine and load big boulders/xtls into your truck (for a fee).

The Mount Ida area is famous for its quartz. I have been gifted and bought pieces from pay-to-dig sites at rock shows over the last few years. I'm not sure if they are still open, but give it a search. As broseph82 says, there is amazing quartz in Arkansas.
