In my seemingly endless wait for enough Stage 1 rotary rocks to fill the Lot-O, Ive been playing around with rough in the Lot-O with 120/220. After about a week, I got some nice Turritella very smooth on the sides (obviously not rounded much on the angles).
For my next batch, I just now loaded the vibe full of ONLY Quartz (clear, pink, purple and rutilated) and ceramic pellets. Is that ok? Should I add some other type of rock(s)? I've never tumbled JUST Quartz in any type of tumbler.
Thanks for any info/advice you can share!
John

Thanks Walt, I will be sure to post some pics after a few days in the Lot-O (of course I forgot to take before pics).
After that, planning on a few weeks in Stage 1 rotary, then back to vibe for polish. I guess this my first real experiment of my own.

Were it me I'd add a bit of water and a bit of Dawn liquid. The water to slow things down a bit and the soap to create a more viscous slurry that would cushion things just a bit more. I often can slightly mollify the action with a bit more water (not so much to wash your grit only to the bottom and that's part of the reason for the soap to help carry the grit along with the rocks' action. I hope this makes sense. Tom '

Thanks, Tom. It doesn't make sense to me, but I am new to all of this and will try out what you said. I appreciate any and all info/advice from people with more experience than myself!
UPDATE… Tom, I added a small amount of water and two drops of liquid Dawn. That slowed down the tumbling action considerably, but also left the Quartz looking "washed" of most of the grit. So I added a few more squirts of water and one more tbsp of grit. So far, so good! Thanks again.
