ok. If I'm hounding and dig up a chunk of quartz ...its Quartz but if you dig up a piece of Geo, what's that called? what's the difference? If it's a full geo you know that it is a geo. So my guess would be a piece of Geo is Quartz. Lots of Geo that you find in the ground are missing a piece is that quartz or a piece of geo? someone ask me and I couldn't answer it. Is Quartz a piece of Geo ? or is a piece of Geo Quartz?

Spiceman, I suspect you are talking about geodes (which can contain quartz crystals) and quartz the raw mineral. If so, you need to consult one of my favorite websites www.quartzpage.de/ which does a great job of describing the continuity or variety of substances all with the same chemical components, but distinct names and forms (quartz, chalcedony, agate, carnelian, etc. etc.). Its a good read and a one worth bookmarking. Tom

My opinion,if I find a partial of a geode,I would call it,just that,a partial geode......

I will try the site, I might even learn something.
But Fossilman, if the partial geo has no outside surfaces it would look just like a piece of Quartz. And that's what it is... I think. If the geo is solid Quartz?
