I should add a word about Walt Wright:
Walton (Walt) Wright is a Botanist/Ecologist/Paleontologist /Geologist and Paleobotanist. Mr. Wright claims his mother, who had a PHD in science & math, gave him his first piece of petrified wood at the age of 10. This opened a new fascinating world into the study of petrified wood. Walt has worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the University of California. He has been a consultant for various government agencies. Mr. Wright has done extensive writing in the field of petrified woods. He wrote a chapter on the Triassic Chinle Formation on fossil woods in 2002, the “Secrets of Petrified Plants” in both English and German.
... about Donna Kelley, flintknapper: Donna Kelley will be demonstrating the ancient art of flint knapping throughout both days of the festival. She makes arrowheads from a variety of different materials including obsidian and agate. It requires incredible patience and skill. Donna answers visitor’s questions while she works.

Went to this show right when it opened on Saturday and had a blast! Every time I go I'm amazed by how many vendors genuinely prioritize making collectors happy over profits. On top of it being fun, I also found a lot of cool stuff this year that didn't break the bank.

I wish I could go! I went about 15 years ago when I started getting back into rocks & lapidary. Same place where we had the Scout Expo when I was a kid & the county fair. Lynn

Is that one piece,a slab of limb cast petwood?? NICE!! (Photo 5 ) It's actually a thunder egg from the old Lone Hill Quarry area near Los Gatos! I already have a ton of thunder eggs in my collection but the Lone Hill Quarry is an extinct locality so I jumped on it.

This is most of what I got. Figured you weren't interested in the 4" saw blade! IMG_0321 by Pat, on Flickr That's serpentine, Morgan Hill poppy jasper, fossilized coral, three ancient, dirty Roman coins. Will clean up with vinegar, I hope. I don't know what the two pendants are. --------- Poppy Jasper IMG_0322 by Pat, on Flickr ---------- Serpentine on top, and I forget what the bottom is. Most of the slab is junk, but I like the good part. IMG_0323 by Pat, on Flickr -------- I like serpentine in its different forms. IMG_0324 by Pat, on Flickr ---------- Fossilized coral. The dots are actually on the stone. IMG_0328 by Pat, on Flickr -------------- What is this? IMG_0329 by Pat, on Flickr ------------ This pendant is similar to the green one. Don't know what it is either. IMG_0330 by Pat, on Flickr There were a lot of great specimens, and it was hard to pass them up. Also bought the 4" saw blade, and a set of cup burrs and a small Foredom vise, a copper bracelet, and CHOCOLATE ROCK CANDY

What is photo #6 with green crystal limpets? Limpets, huh? I might steal that term. It's wavellite from Arkansas.

What kind is it?

I was looking for a wavellite specimen for my case and this guy jumped out at me. The agate actually has a small fracture (more like a scratch? but that's what they chose to put on the label) on the surface that is completely undetectable unless you hold it a certain way in good lighting. I was so engrossed in snatching it up (it was heavily discounted because of the "fracture"! $20 seemed like a steal to me) that I didn't confirm what kind it was, but I'm pretty sure it's either a Laguna or Agua Nueva. update: www.mineralworld.de/html/agua_nueva_05.html looks like one of the new agua nueva finds that came out of the area around 2008!

Pat: The cellular looking material in your pendant is, I believe, what they call by the trade name "crab fire agate". It's sort of a man enhanced crackle type agate that I think is coming out of China. I've seen it in a couple of colors but shades of carnelian and sard seem to be the most often seen.
That second slab with the purple in the first set of pics is really cool by the way.....Mel
