Hello! I'm in Flagstaff for a couple days, which is apparently a good place to find rocks. I'm an amateur rock person.. Are these rocks I found in Sedona something I can tumble ? imgur.com/a/glbrZAlso, I'm going to be here only for the three days, and I'm here with a group... Is there any place I could pop in to for only an hour or two and hope to find agates or anything? Or if I stopped on the side of the road? Are agates everywhere here?

Yes most rocks are good for tumbling...I'm not familiar with Arizona, but I'm sure the area your at should have petwood, agates and etc.... Just keep a watchful eye out...

If you had a day I could put you on wood, but an hour or two is not enough time. I hate the Flag area so I avoid it. Therefore I can't help.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't have much time as it turned out. I did find these rocks in az in a few random places imgur.com/a/2Niv3Do these look like agates or anything else that would take a polish? I picked these up because I thought they might be good in the rock tumbler, but I'm just winging it. Some of them look like quartz now that I have them cleaned off which wouldn't be that great. Thanks for any input!

THAT THE GREAT THING About tumblers! U can put anything n them and see how it comes out. My moto....tumble them all! They r either gonna be fodder to carry the grit or they r gonna be beauties!

If I were wandering around in AZ looking for stuff to tumble, I'd have a steel tool like a screwdriver or pocket knife to try scratching rocks with. Keep the ones where the tool just leaves a metal mark and not a white scratch on the rock.

With so little time, your best hounding is at a local rock shop. Check online. With so many amazing rocks from Arizona, there must be many dealers and shops.

Thanks for all the great advice! I've got two big bags of rocks that are possibilities. I'm actually staying near a few rock stores in Utah now and I've been thinking of buying some, but I really get a kick out of finding them myself

Thanks for the offer and the input. It looks like granite and quartz will both be difficult to polish. I ended going to a rock shop as 150FromFundy suggested and buying a bunch of petrified wood. I also grabbed more rocks in a bunch of random places between Utah and Arizona. Some of them look more like chert to me than the pictures I posted. I bet I will get something out of all it at least!
