Had an awesome hunt this morning with my new to me old Belgium made Browning Auto 5 in 16 gauge made in 1956. There have been three tom turkeys in a group that have been giving me the slip on previous hunts, so I switched tactics this morning and it paid off with a huge Gobbler! Couldn't find my scales I use to weigh fish, so had to guesstimate his weight and put it at 25 pounds or a bit more. 12 1/2 inch beard and one inch spurs, but the ends were broken off from fighting other toms. This was an older bird and was quite the challenge to hunt! We have a limit of two birds, so going again Sunday and try for one that has the thickest beard I've ever seen!

Not sure why, but I prefer a good Irish whisky to most american brands. That reminds me, I have almost a full bottle of Tullamore Dew

radio Irish is a bit green for me. American white oak sweeter. You may taste it differently. Just different tastes in spirits. Still friends should share a whiskey from time to time. I pray, we wil share a day hunting, and a whiskey. I would be very happy indeed. How about a day in a goose field?

How about a day in a goose field? wish we could share a hunt and a sip afterward the 40 year old Bushmills is the best whiskey I ever tried, but Whiskeys all have one thing in common. The more of you drink, the less you notice the burn Never hunted Goose, but would enjoy a day afield. No Quail left here for the most part and Pheasant stay up North. Plenty of Ducks, but don't like to eat them, so don't hunt them

Nice turkey! We have them running around the yard at my house. My wife calls them "poofy turkeys" this time of year. We had them fighting in the front yard this spring.

But will you eat one for summer solstice? A traditional meal to show revereance to the earth. One should always sup upon wild turkey at summer solstice.

Unfortunately, no. They're all still alive. I have hunted a lot of ducks, but never turkey. The season opens on a Monday every year and my father in law heads to camp while I'm at work. He's back before the weekend, so I can't go with him. That would be my best place to hunt. I can't really shoot them in my yard. Maybe I should practice using my son's slingshot.

Our ranch is a no hunt wildlife preserve so we have monster turkeys up the wazoo, all half pets. Hens are on the nests right now so the chicks should be showing up in a bit. Nests are kind of like land mines when you are out horseback though. Nothing makes for a rodeo finer than having a hen turkey come up right beneath your horse. We all love them though. Beautiful birds and a hoot to watch when they are courting...Mel

Bow and arrow may be legal method of take. Easy in a backyard.

Nice beard, but would love to see the tail fan! Beautiful bird! Congrats! Had no one around to take a pic with me spreading the fan. Wing feathers were beat to #@ll from fighting other toms.
