Not sure how the meta crowd hangs but how about Magic Stone & Lapidary Or Magickstone & Lapidary I like that name and I'm going to run it by my wife "Magic Stone Lapidary Rock Shop"? I have decided that if we choose a name I am going to provide $50.00 of material from our buy it now section in our EBay store.

Here's one: "The Enchanted Lapidary"- Magical, descriptive, and quizzical since the majority of the population don't know what "lapidary" means, and the enchanted part might bring in curious folks who want to find out what it is. I can imagine a huge amethyst geode in the rear of the store, well lit and on a nice white pedestal, in direct line sight when they step through the front door. P.S. IMHO Should be @ least $100, for a proper name.

Maybe there's a pixie/elf/magical creature sawing thru a rock in your biz logo- just spitballin' here.

I like unclesoska's and @shotgunner's suggestions. A twist on that...how about 'Mystical Stone and Lapidary'. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck!

Seems to me your location could support a silversmith too. Consider subleasing bench space to a silversmith. You both will have a synergy.

What your wife is selling will attract a very different clientele from what you will have to offer. You are going to need a name that will attract both the metaphysical types and serious lapidary customers.
That may be tough to do. May need a two part name or main name and then a descriptive add-on to let people know you are actually catering to two different sets of people.
Something kinda along the lines of a Crystal Connections & Lapidary Shoppe type name, where you try to make sure folks know that you are not strictly a metaphysical store OR a rock shop.
Brainstorm two part names and see if that doesn't help expand your potential customer draw. Given half an hour, I could come up with 50 such ideas, I'm sure you can too!
Good luck with your store and please keep us informed.

I notice there is a Spyglass Ridge open space just north and east of you in town. I don't know if it is close enough or if the name is prominent enough in town to be relevant to a store name but I love that name for conjuring up instant mental pictures and fantasies.
In no particular order:
Spyglass Ridge Rock Shop Spyglass Crystals and Gem Shop Spyglass Rocks and Crystals Spyglass Gems and Minerals
variation: Through the Looking Glass, Crystals and Gems
Thanks for sharing this process with us! I wish you guys the best of success.

Are you near the Freed gallery? I'm thinking that you could get a lot of the casino traffic too, just some basic folks spending money. Get too far up in the metaphysical ozone with your name and they might drive on by. The successful shops in the Portland area are Eds house of gems and Handleys Rock and Gem here in Vancouver WA. Something as basic as Logans Rocks might be best for the big sign, a couple smaller signs on the front wall listing your basic categories of merchandise and services for after they stop.

You should check on the municipal sign rules as well, Terry had major issues with the rules in Seaside in his original location.

Logan's Gemstone Service Station (For All of Your Lapidary and Crystal Healing Needs) I always think of the word gemstone as a draw. It sure draws me.

Logan's Gemstone Service Station (For All of Your Lapidary and Crystal Healing Needs) I always think of the word gemstone as a draw. It sure draws me. I just want everybody to know that I sincerely appreciate all of the feedback on this and I apologize that I am just now responding. I have had a long day today I picked two additional display cases that should get my for now since I now have 3 large glass cases. I will use regular shelving and cabinets for the rest. I went to help my friend load a home made 36" saw but it was too big for his trailer which is an 8 footer. This is the biggest 36 I have ever seen with a 220 23 amp 5hp motor. Another friend of ours has a large enough trailer and will help him out, I also wound up purchasing a 16" Nelson slab saw that I will be picking up as well this week. I already have a 16 however this one sounds so good and delivers a nice cut, it was very well taken care of and comes with a brand new Barranca blade. I will be taking that one to the store for the thunderegg cuts since it cuts so quiet and I won't have to worry about the noise bothering the store next door. I also got my Australian opal looked at by a friend of mine who makes jewelry and he was quite impressed. I did not do the finish on these pieces I purchased them quite awhile ago for $600 because I was sure that there was money to be made down the road someday. Of course he advised me to set them for jewelry to maximize profit, rather than selling them loose. He does faceting and silver smithing and is a long time member of the Tualitin Valley Rock Club, his name is Cal for those of you that are local. All in all I would say that today has been a productive day and Again I thank you all for your help...Warm Regards, Sincerely...Mark...ps. I will take pictures this week, I promise ;-)

Not trying to rain on your parade, but before getting in too deep money wise you might want to wait until after the election. The present admin has been anything but friendly to small businesses & startup businesses. This next election could turn two ways. More of the same, or more small business friendly.
Not trying to hijack your thread into a political debate. Just stating facts as they are today.

Zero to few employees, products cant injure the clients. So insurance and compliance costs will be minimal. He stated a very low monthly fixed expense.... Rock n Roll Mike!
