Fossilman inspired me to post this - I'm currently obsessed with making cabochons from thundereggs. We are traveling up to the Madras show week after next and plan on spending a day digging at Richardson's ranch (woohoo!) If anyone has any advice on which bed we should visit for the best chance at moss agate let me know. These two cabs were what started the obsession. Both sold within minutes of posting on Etsy - to the same person - and we shipped them off to Slovenia. The first picture is a front and (unfinished) back - yes I know I domed the wrong side LOL. There was a chip on one edge if I domed what is now the backside it would have been a lot smaller ... I thought the pattern would travel and get into the good stuff - blah blah excuses excuses lol. I don't usually show the backs of cabochons... This one turned out just bad to the bone in real life. The picture isn't doing it justice. Thanks for looking!

I hope you find some good eggs out there. I tried to order some from them, but it was a totally disappointing experience. Had to end up buying some of their eggs from a different vendor. Good thing you're close enough to go dig your own.

Wow! Those are awesome cabs! Coincidentally, I have been on a kick, too. I've been picking up a lot of them on ebay. Haven't cut any of those yet, though. The ones I have done in the past have made me a believer. I would wish you luck in the TE beds, but somehow I don't think you will need it.

Nice job. I just tumbled a pretty good thunderegg slab but it has become so difficult for me to post my photos from Insta that it may be awhile before I can display it. Can't really use photobucket any more because it takes forever to load photos & I've been in a time crunch. Maybe I'll get some vacation days soon... But I love what you've done. Seems like you've completely removed the matrix, which I had not thought of doing... I don't know if you can see this photo on Instagram but... http://instagram.com/p/BGW8J2KDWV8 The photo does not capture the great polish it took. The edges are raggedy though. I wonder if it could be set in silver or ? Hmmm. http://instagram.com/p/BGW8Bm8jWVr

I really like those, the multi colored moss is neat. Awesome job! You need to get your some Baker Eggs to cab. They have a matrix that is very hard and full of silica so it usually takes a mirror shine. Not mossy types though but real nice fortifications, Trying to remember but I think the lucky Strike T-egg beds were the ones that really used to have fine moss and the eggs were huge so you could get the moss matrix free too. This was good as the matrix was kind of grainy....Mel
